I figued I'd set up a thread for those hoping to follow what's happening at Road Atlanta today. I know I would be looking for this stuff if I was in the office. So, I'll post here as stuff happens and anyone else who is going or is here feel free to add. The more updates the better.


So, that said, we drove up from Florida yesterday, and arrived at Road Atlanta about 10:15am. We're second in line behind a MINI that seemingly works at the Road Atlanta property... A CR/B JCW Clubman named "Zippy".

The lady at the Guard hut says she can't let anyone in until 3:30, but she does seem to think that guests will be able to drive the FULL track. I'm skeptical.

Someone arrived about 30 minutes ago in a chauffered Town Car.

Two huge Goodyear trucks came in a little while ago, too.


More as it happens.

 

How many are there in line now?

 

Official word from MINI at the Track:

-Brad Davis is driving the MINI (maybe I missed this announcement)

and...

-"Hot Laps" on the FULL COURSE for guests!

So for all the people who said MINI should just have done this in a parking lot... That's why it's at Road Atlanta. Supposedly, "it will be a leader/follower setup, but he will be driving it hard." I will have in-car video on youtube tomorrow.

 

As of right now, there are 4 MINIs and a Honda Fit.

 

Have fun and be safe, just spent two days on Road Atlanta doing a NASA HPDE this weekend finishing last night!!! Almost stayed for this but was too whipped.....

 

GREAT IDEA! I wanted to be there, so this is the next best thing. Please keep updates coming...

 

~8 MINIs here... No Porsches yet. Supposedly, the Atlanta MINI club should be arriving soon.

What we presume to be the "official" Cooper S (CR/B w/ Webspokes) and Carrera S (Seal Grey w/ dark gray wheels) have driven by the waiting line and "pro shop" area.

 

Yes, please keep the updates coming, for those of us who could not be there.

I just talked to the Video guy. I'm not sure about LIVE, but they have 5 handheld HD cameras and 26 GoPro HDs set up around the courses and in the cars.

BTW, the first Porsche just showed up. Black on Black wheels 997, from what I can see from here.

Race is about to start... If this is an autox, it's a BIG one.

Got to do a couple sessions on the full course. After I got past a MCS that was slowing a couple of us down, I got to drive it really hard. Had a blast. Can't wait to get here for a full track day.

Porsche wins the first "Round" by ~2 seconds.

 

It might be better if we lose by a little bit than win anyway. I think the average person would be impressed if Mini came close while costing about 1/3 of the cost of the Porsche . If mini won everyone would assume it was rigged.
