Hyundai Challenges Mini
Hyundai Challenges Mini
And now the shoe is on the other foot. It will be interesting to see how Mini responds when being on the receiving end .

Doesn't remove the fact that the car is a piece of crap. Being in the body shop business, I assure you someone will have to follow behind it to pick up all the trim that fell off.

FWIW, the MINI JCW and Hyundai Genesis 3.8 both have run Car&Driver's Lightning Lap at VIR (a relatively fast track, not MINI's forte). The Genesis ran a 3:14.8 and the MINI a 3:17.1, so 2.3 seconds difference on a 3-minute+ course. Of course, there are a bunch of variables such as the Genesis' auto trans and the MINI seemingly not having it's electronic LSD activated and DTC off (they talk about the MINI often spinning the inside front tire) and likely having the base or sport suspension rather than JCW (though it's debatable whether that would be "legal"... another reason why that should be standard on the JCW.)
All that being said, I think MINI should accept the challenge and I think it would at least be an interesting race, even if the MINI didn't win. Just like people don't cross-shop Porsches and MINIs often, I doubt THAT many people cross-shop the Genesis and the MINI, either, so the overall positive publicity is good for both of them, IMO.

I think they should allow the JCW because the genesis is their performance vehicle, no?

O noes, the Hyundai beat a mustang in a race? Something tells menthere were turns in that race, turns are something cheap american muscle doesn't do. Vettes on the other hand can be brilliant. Mustangs are just dreadful, IMHO.
I think in an even race a JCW will smoke them. And I hope MINI will do it.

If was an HPDE, they have to point you by on the straightaways, no passing in the turns...
I think the point was that in theory, the Mustangs should trounce the Mini's on the straights, and that's where they had to give the point-by.
But the only way to prove that is with a straight line race--if the MINI comes out of a turn with a much higher exit speed, that translates to straight line speed on the straight.
The same car (mustang) that smokes me in a quarter mile straight line I catch with no problem at Blackhawk coming off a turn because I can carry so much more speed at the beginning of the straight.

Seems to be a pointless challenge. Like apples and oranges......
Folks who are looking for Hyundai Performance are not normally found parusing the lots of BMW/Mini.....and visa versa...it's more like advertising plagiarism to me.

Yep Randy, that's what I was getting at.
If you've ever seen a stock Mustang at an HPDE go from a long straight to a tight, low-speed turn, you've seen a MINI right up against it's bumper...
Mustangs look like snowplows coming into turns on unmodified suspensions (although the new ones are supposed to be much better), and even though they're faster on the straights, they're running slower lap times. Hence a car can be much quicker down the straight, but if overall he's running a slower lap time, he may get blue flagged on the straight to let the other car go, even though that car that is being pointed by is slower on that particular point of the track.
Happens all the time. Feels kind of good when it happens too.

One could say the same about MINI calling out Porsche....

Now that's just sick.....get your mind otta the gutta
Because that is where Hyundai usually parks !

I think MINI could win but it would be close....but I think the Hyundai would break at some point in the race...
