If I am not mistaken, the first time you need to pay for just new brake pads on that Lexus you will just about offset losses in going to the MINI.

From what I understand, due to some stupid design flaw, Lexus makes you also buy new rotors every time too and a 4 wheel brake pad job ends up costing about 2k......

If you do some of your own repairs on the MINI, you will be even more ahead of the game. Besides, those clubmans are a sweet ride.

I wonder (out loud typing) if there is a place to see what the projected up keep cost are for each vehicle?

BTW gRay rAvEn, why haven't you modded you antenna yet lol

FWIW, I posted virtually the same post on the Lexus forum a little later in the day. A good amount of Lexus pride but most are telling me about the same thing. People are surprised at my monthly payment but unless they put even more down then I did - how aren't they paying about the same?

Still trying to figure out, as one or two have suggested on the Lexus forum, going 84 months or more is going to help me on a loan :|

Cavalier Cooper, as far as selling the car rather than trade in. How much would the effective difference be when you factor in sales tax. The few IS C's for sale are going for about 48K so there in fact is the 5k you were talking about. However, and maybe I don't know, if you don't trade in a car you don't get to deduct the difference in sales tax.

If this is true, lemme do the math out loud as I type (already got my shoes off for this). Texas sales tax is 6.5 percent. ~$27k for the mini times 6.5% = $1,755 - $5k = 3245. So that's not a bad difference. The trade is just so easy though :|
What is taken off of sales tax? The amount you lose when you trade in? I've never heard of this before, then again, I have much experience trading in cars.

The Clubman and Cabrio both have a 0.9% rate, not 1.9% rate. It is almost "free".

Consumer Reports provides estimated annual gas and maintenance/repair costs for most vehicles.

Everyone here has been telling you to go for it and all have good points. I say Do it as well. Minis are the best, everything looks more in your favor with a Mini over the Lexus except the hit, but hey you will look at it everyday and fall in love with your Mini every day, over a lexus.

In the end even if you seek advice, you will make the decision even if its against or for other's advice. Just sleep on it (not too much though). Do what you want to do what you really want but with financial reasoning as well and realisticly and you will find your own decision, regardless of what we tell you. Good Luck!
