MINI Pickup Would you buy one?

I would like to start a poll.

If MINI made a single cab Pickup. Like the classic but maybe using the New Clubman body. Would you buy one?

Someone posted a Photoshopped one on Photobucket. This is what I would like to see. Maybe not the color choice but what do you think.

If you would buy one post yes on here if not post no.

No.

If the "bed" isn't any longer than the cargo area in regular Cooper (or Clubman, in this case) there's little, if any, added utility. Beefing up the suspension to make it able to haul anything heavier than the car is able to, coupled with removing most of the weight from the rear wheels and throwing off any semblance of weight balance would ruin the handling.

Companies tried making "car trucks" in the '60's - '80's (at last count Australia was still doing so, but they're upside down anyway ) and it didn't go so well... The smaller ones made in the 80's in particular were spectacular failures. "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

EDIT: Realized I didn't include that the Photoshop is pretty decent, though. And although I think I like the Countryman better from a practical standpoint (although it should have round headlights), at least the truck has some ties to Mini's history.

I think it looks cool! I wouldn't... just because I'm not really a truck kind of girl... but my boyfriend might (he has a thing for small trucks - S10s)

Yes, I would. It would be a novelty toy, much like the Chevy SSR. Only a select few "gets it."

wouldn't buy one as it would be pretty impractical. I do kind of like the look of it though. Nice Photoshop

Yes. I like the looks and it's only going to haul a load of groceries anyway. If I want to haul something heavy I'll buy a full size truck.

Yes!

I've had several of those "impractical" trucks and yes, if you buy a truck to haul a big boat or trailer or something it's not useful But, if you like most Americans, buy a truck for daily driving and occassionally to haul a couple of bags of mulch home from Home Depot or a TV from Costco, it makes all the sense in the world.

The problem I had with my two VW pickups was that the cabin was just too small, I couldn't get the seat back far enough to get comfortable, so as long as they can get enough cabin space, I'm there.

This was an even bigger problem with the Mini Classic pickups, I have a friend who has one and I can barely get in or out of it, and I'm only 5'9".....

The "car-trucks" the previous poster mentioned actually sold very well from 1957 when Ford brought out the Ranchero till they ended production with the El Camino in the late 80's. They still sell well in Australia and other parts of the world.

Personally no but I have to admit I enjoy seeing the Redbull Mini in my area that they turned into a pickup with a giant can in the bed.

Past Small Car Trucks
Dodge Ramapage

Subaru Brat

VW Rabbit Truck

I was thinking more along the lines of the sales of the examples schr5530 posted... They're closer to a MINI truck in terms of form and utility than a Ranchero or an El Camino. My 2nd car was actually a '79 Ranchero (green with gold GT stripes - ugh!) and it did a pretty good job of hauling things... Probably at least as good as my 4-cyl Ranger.

With the Ranger (the closest thing to a small truck still available in the US) scheduled to be gone after next year, maybe the timing's right for a revival of this idea... I'd bet against it, though, based on the sales of the Subaru Baja (~30k in over four years) and Chevy SSR (~24k in four years) - the most recent vehicles of this ilk to be offered in the US.

Nope.

I'm still not so sure that I like the Clubman -- too long.

I guess I just got hooked on the original little box. It is what it is.

i'm with you. though the classic mini's came in several shapes/platforms. but as far as the new ones there just the cooper/cooper s. the rest of it, no way. i'm not sure i'd get another mini even just due to all of these spin off's.

kinda like in my opinion how porsche totally devalued their image and name with the stupid sedan and suv. i saw bugatti is doing a sedan and aston is doing an suv? rubbish!

As a one-off custom or very limited edition, it might make some sense. But as a full-on production model, I think not. I know I wouldn't buy one. Cool looking, though. Now maybe if you made the top convertible or removeable, that might be interesting.

What do you mean impractical? If you are good at packing you can carry quite a few things. Here's a little bit of a load that I had in my pickup.

There's actually a shop in the UK that does pickup conversions. Prices starting from £5000.

Well a very interesting MINI variation, definitely for those who want to be different or buy lots of TV's from Costco or Wallyworld.

I'd rather see a MINI version of Mercedes-Benz's UNIMOG, one where y'd have the base 4wd chassis, and could configure it to your needs: hauler, dumper, personnel carrier, snow plow, flatbed, etc etc.

We could call it the "MINIMOG."
