How many windshields?
How many windshields?
Thought I would throw this question out there. How many windshields have you had to repair or replace on your mini?
I have owned my MCS for 1 year, 5 days and currently need to replace my windshield for the second time
. What say you people?

I'm on my second windscreen on my 2006 MC. I drive it year-round. Last year, at about 30,000 miles, just AFTER the 3-year warranty expired, a crack developed at the top of the window, in the center (right in front of the rear-view mirror), and it slowly grew to about 4 inches, then took a 90 degree left turn for about an inch.
I had it replaced by a shop that has history with Mini Coopers. They brought out an OEM window and a spare set of A-pillars with clips (just in case). Nine months later and still A-OK.

2006 MC. Owned for 3 1/2 years with 64k miles. I am on my fifth windshield. Glad I have the waiver for windshield damage on my comprehensive insurance!

Ditto! about tne insurance wavier.
Around here, at least for me, it's the trucks hauling sand. You can actually watch it blasting tiny dots into the windshield
. I try to get around them as quickly as possible, but it's a loosing battle. So before long, I'll need a new one also. Which I think is rather soon, for an 06.

I only put one in my '03, and it was because if got hit by a massive.............something thrown up from a truck tire. It was also pretty pitted all over, so it was time to do it.
My '09 Clubby is still on it's original at 15 months and 15k miles, although it also has a few pits from highway driving.

I have had my mini for roughly 8 months. Two days ago, my 3rd windshield arrived.
The factory one cracked and was covered under warranty.
The second one got broke a few weeks ago, and I'm trying to hold off till my next track day before I install the new windshield.
Oh well, crap happens...

Bought the windsheild insurance when I bought the car. Came with a snakeoil coating that was supposed to prevent chips. Took some pretty loud rock hits, but no chips. Only had to replace the windsheild when I tipped the car over.
We replaced the first windshield July 2009 on the clubman. One month later received a nice chip on the other car(r56) which needs the windshield replaced also but holding on because planning on trading for Countryman. At least I found a place that charges half of what the dealer charge for replacement. Jos
My R53 had four windshields in 30K miles, one stress crack under warranty, three from damage. So far on my two R56's, I've had no replacements and only one small chip on my current car. I think something about the profile of the R53 invited damage, on your R56 I think you're just having bad luck.
going on 2 years now and 2nd windshield going on soon
This is the only car I've owned that I had to replace the windshield. I've taken plenty of hits in other cars and they held up fine.

What's the deal with these windshields? Three of my friends with MINIs have had to replace theirs more than a few times since they bought them. I haven't yet, but I've only had the car for 4 months.
Don't tell me it's the steep angle, because a friend has that milk truck Scion with an even steeper windshield angle than the MINI and he's going on 5 years without a single problem (he has taken multiple long road trips in that barge, including one cross-country!).
So it's not the angle. Is the glass not thick enough? Does any company make a better quality replacement windshield?

I plan on having this current mess fixed tomorrow.

It's still April 1st here right now.
