So it's not the angle. Is the glass not thick enough? Does any company make a better quality replacement windshield?

I used to own one of the "milk truck" Scions (xB) and I went through three windshields... My fiance's 08 xB is about to get it a new one since it has a nice crack in it...

Glass Chips

I got my first glass chip within two months of taking her home and then got a second about a month ago and thought enough is enough...but what to do about it. I was watching the boob tube the other day and a commercial for Safelite came on and said that most insurance companites will pay for repair without deductable. So I called and sure enough they did and sent Safelite to my home to do the repair. I had two "glass bubbles" as the tech called them and he did his magic now I nearly cant even tell they were there...FREE! May not work for all especially the large cracks but if you get a ding, try this before it spreads and it may save you some drama and headaches.

I've had a few chips repaired in my windshield but I still see them but the guy said they're sealed so they won't do anything...

I can still see just the tiny speck where it was at but it isnt obvious, gaudy, and it didnt cost me a cent so I am happy. Many folks have bug guts on their windshields bigger then my specks

Still running with the original, with substantial micro-pitting as you might expect. Growing weary of looking thru the starfield simulator every time I motor.

Thought the time had come a couple of weeks ago. Driving in the rain, a rock hit so hard it sounded like someone had swung a hammer at the windshield. Kept waiting for the telltale spider to appear. Nothing. Later inspection revealed a deep divot on the mirror cap.

Four total glasses on my old '02 MCS. Friend replaced once prior to my owning it. Had to replace it to pass inspection shortly after I bought it. Third glass had a bubble defect directly in the driver's viewing area. Dork at the shop says "I can see it from here" when I took it back. Replace next day. Had the fourth glass when I totalled it in November.

Had to change the windscreen once on my 06 MC due to damage, but it was covered under my Comp insurance, so no biggie. My new 09 MCS only has ~750 miles on it, so (knocking on wood) no damage yet.
It's pretty typical for me to change windshields on any car I've owned for more than a year ... lots of large trucks, back roads, and careless farmers between me and work every day.

Peace,
Mike

I'm on my second one just installed a few weeks ago. When I bought my 04 MCS it had a crack in the drivers side windshield that drove my nuts. I got a new one through my insurance with no deductable. Free windshield, nice!!!

It has to be the steep angle on the glass because FJCruisers have the same problem and think how high they sit off the ground. My son's FJ has many chips and our Clubman got several on our first trip. Fortunately South Carolina has a state law that requires windshields be replaced for free (if you have an insurance policy). I'm waiting for an actual crack verses my 5-10 chips.

Well, I had my windshield replaced today. Let's see how long this one will last.

Im half tempted to replace mine w/ 38K miles...its just a starfield, as Gil-galad put it. Mine has taken some pretty loud hits, and there are a few decent, and very visible (2MM+) nicks in it

Thats what i get for NOT following close at all.... its like the rocks have plenty of time to bounce up high, straight to my glass. I feel as if i rode everyones *** that, the debris would just stay low, but I like my bumpers more i guess.

Had the clearplex (www.clearplex.com) invisible windshield installed today. We'll see how it holds up.

EXACTLY. It's not the fault of MINI windshields or a fault in the glass.....it's the angle. Go over to the PT Cruiser forum, they have the exact same problem. The PT Cruiser also has the same problem with paint chips on the front of the car, that many Mini owners complain about.......it's like a big flat vertical target.
