Hey Capt, can't speak for everyone, but I'm happy to pay you $80+k annually, you earned it. Thanks for your service! Can I hitch a ride on the train?

We can afford to... if we run out of money, Obama will just print more...

Mark

EDIT: Just for clarity, the "eye roll" was for Obama printing more money... not you getting paid. I'm with Steve, I think our military should be taken care of much better than they are. and teachers, and fireman, and social workers and police. It's unfortunate, we can't afford to pay the people that should be paid but we sure as hell can pay some ballplayer 5 mill a year to play a game.

Oh yeah...see, I took the wrong career path. I should have went the officer route. I get a whopping $215/month for Va disability after being 30% disabled from falling from the tail of a KC-135 while being forced to do something during a storm that should have been one 1. dry 2. indoors. But since I was injured getting aircraft going to the desert I'm a "combat wounded" soldier. I got a severance package of $18K, which was taxed, now I get $215 a month until its paid back. Go figure. I would enlist again today if they would allow me to. So $80K a year would be freaking fantasy. I cant even pay my gas bill for my "service to our country".

I've thought about doing the officer route with the USAF. Just don't know if it's for me - the service life that is.

I'm sorry but that's just wrong. You expressed my point EXACTLY. All of our people that serve our country, serve our people, serve our children all get crappy pay but yet as Americans we have no problem with paying ridiculous amounts of money to ball players (using that as an example).

If I were in office, I assure you our loyalty would be back to our people.

Though this doesn't pay the bills, THANKS for your service.

Mark

I appreciate that Mark. I agree as well, we pay actors and sports players way too much money. Just watch one episode of "Cribs" and I want to puke.

And I am a certified athletic trainer (ATC). I get paid to sit around and watch sports, and patch up the athletes when they get hurt.

I work in an office.

Here's the view out my window...

My typical hours are 9PM to 5AM, however.

Professional figure skating coach. I train competitive skaters in several different disciplines full time.

The good part: I do a TON of commuting, so I get to be with my Mini a lot.
The bad part: Try 5 am - 8 am, 11 am - 1 pm, and 4 pm - 9 pm as working hours on a daily basis during the school year. It's kinda brutal.

I've enjoyed reading this thread! When I was deciding to buy my MINI, I did some online research, trying to see what type of person the average MINI owner was. Everything I read indicated that it was a difficult group to pin down to a certain type. This thread really reflects that with the wide variety of careers.

I can't help but notice something. Orangecrush, you have said much, and yet very little to answer the thread's central question. So, what do YOU do to earn a living?

Me too! Although I work only one (full time) gig at the moment.

I'm a former Army Rad Tech (served eight years '00-'08) and now work in much less-hostile environments. Although I'm usually a 9-to-5'er myself.

Hah! That makes two of us.

Things like this never came to mind when I chose "Radiologic Technologist" as my MOS:

But eh, we held it down all right. Enough good memories to outweigh the bad. I can't really complain... just appreciate life a lot more.

That's a vacation Here is a pic of an IED (improvised explosive device) blowing up my vehicle. You can't see my truck, but it is in the middle of this explosion. I spent 15 months in Mosul, Iraq fighting bad guys and another 6 months in Afghanistan doing the same until I had to come home due to injuries.

I am just harrassin ya, like any good infantryman. No place is safe in a war zone. Thanks again for your service!
