MINI and GPS?

So I drive a lot for work, and in a MINI, it's worth it. Almost not like work, but then I'd be lying.

Anyway, I use a GPS, because I do travel to lot of different locations, and the GPS has been great. However, when I select the route choices, it's pretty much either shortest by time or shortest by distance.

What I'd like is a MINI option on the GPS that provides the route with the most twisties. The FUN route to take.

I don't suppose anyone knows how to program a GPS to give the MINI driver the most fun and still get them there without an undue amount of delay. A reasonable balance of efficiency and fun.

If I were king of the forest, that's what I'd want.

Look into the Garmins that support .gpx files. The old Zumo series and select Nuvis can accept uploaded routes, I had a few good sites bookmarked that I'll have to re-find where Motorcycists posted .gpx routes to share with the community, so you'll be guided along the twisties usually upward of 200miles. And many of those models can also record the routes you pave, so you can in turn make your share with the community.

I like local paper maps to really find twisties, cause once I'm on it, I only look at the road.

Select the 'avoid highway' option. Most times that will result in a fun route.

Another site I like is www.grouprider.com. Found some good gpx files on there for routes. I'll have to dig in to the motorcyclerider.com site listed above.

Your best option is going to be to map the route ahead of time and load it on the GPS (assuming it can handle multi point routing).

On the fly though, about the best you'll be able to do is the "avoid highway" option mentioned above.

Also select alternate route and put in lots of miles.

TRPete,

You know... this would be a great sales idea for Mini!

Would you happen to know of any specific Nuvi models that accept .gpx files?

I'm pretty sure any Nuvi model will accept a gpx file. However, if you want to use some of the routes that are fairly detailed, following specific roads, you will need something that can handle multiple point routing. Here is a link to a Garmin search of "current" Garmin models that support that functionality.

Gotta be careful with that - I tried it when I lived in TX, and the GPS gave me a route through some guy's ranch. Neither Chester nor the rancher wouldv'e been very happy if I'd followed it!

I'd go with the 765t. I love mine and you can get it directly from Amazon for barely over 200 dollars. Then get a mounting kit from Craven Speed. Mine's mounted just to the left of the tach and just visible beyond the edge of the steering wheel. Works great. And I use the FM broadcast to hear it in my cabriolet.
