I have the email string saved at work, but I will try to post it when I get in. I Understand you guys think I was wrong, but personally I still do not think a company should advertise something they are unwilling to stand behind.
Look at the picture in that auction. ITS A USED OEM PULLEY.

You CAN'T be serious. The old adage "the customer is always right" is the biggest line of BS in the history of commerce, and you're a testament to that. If I were Alta, I'd politely thank you to shop elsewhere in the future and blacklist you from ever being a future customer.

I'm amazed these replies are as polite as they are. Being a business person myself, I can surely side with ALTA. My dealings with them have always been positive. To keep this from being personal, I'll just say I think you're way off base. Like almost everyone here has said, Ebay isn't a business. When a COMPANY advertises a price match it's generally assumed by most intelligent people, that means any established business. Geez man, your ethics need a serious reevaluation.

This might be interesting. I wonder if the two email conversations will match?

This thread is a joke. Alta did nothing wrong here. I can't think of any place that would price match with Ebay. IMO you already got a sweet deal on that pulley.

Sorry but you are wrong in my opinion! And making a thread on a web site is creating bad press for a company that has done no wrong. I do not know any retailer that would price match E-Bay, that is a crazy expectation again IMO.

I sent Alta the link and screen print of the pulley.

Alta replied "I am sorry but we cannot pricematch ebay auctions. If you find our 15 percent pulley advertised at a store for lower please let us know!" even though this is clearly not what it had said on there website further more after I had sent them this email they had changed their advertisment to "If you find one for less someplace online forward us the link and we will match or beat it. (EXCLUDES AUCTION SITES AND GARAGE SALE ITEMS)"

Alta refused to offer me any sort of deal on the pulley and basically told me tough luck. I am very disappointed with service, and will most likely never purchase anything from this vendor.

Just wanting to vent a little about my poor experience, and see what you guys think of this, am I wrong to be disappointed?

Yeah I think the OP has been properly chastised here. It is not reasonable to expect a vendor to uphold a price on a used product that is not even the same brand as the one you are looking to buy. NO retailer uses an online auction as a "price match".

SOMEGUY,
I am sorry you feel like you have to escalate this to a thread of bad press on NAM. I would like to see ANY company match an auction on pricing. Threatening us with this is definitely not the way to earn a discount. Our price on our website with our advertised coupons is a great deal and that will be the price. Thank you.

Your business is appreciated! Please let us know how we can help in anyway further!

Thanks for choosing ALTA Performance!

Alta,
I understand that the price on ebay is much less then the advertised price that you have, would you be willing to do $60 for the pulley as I would have ended up renting the puller from you if I had purchased the pulley on eBay; and to be fair the auction site exclusion was not added until I had emailed you. I hope we can work somthing out, as you are a large forum sponcer, and I would not like to escalate this to a thread on northamericanmotoring.

Thank you,
SOMEGUY

Dear John Leitl:

On NorthAmericanMotoring.com I saw that you were having a "Year End Clearance Sale" on many parts. I am interested in purchasing the 15% smaller supercharger pulley, the panel filter, and renting the pulley removal tool. I saw that you were advertising the pulley as "If you find one for less someplace online forward us the link and we will match or beat it."

<mime-attachment.gif>

I was able to locate the same pulley, brand new on eBay that had sold for $33.00, and was wondering if you are willing to match that price. The link and screenprint of that page are provided below. I am sure you are out of the office until Monday, but please call me when you get in my number is ***-***-****.

Hopefully the mod will delete this thread so the title does not carry the bad press against alta. Even though it is fun reading how many times this guy is reminded that he was wrong.

That was almost like blackmail.
Give me part or I attempt to ruin the world for you! hahah

He must have some Stewie Griffin in him!

Yeah, I kind of think they should have left it closed. Mods? I certainly think it has run its course.
