Fumoto Drain Valve--Something's Odd

Heads-up! It appears that the F-106 Fumoto oil drain valve from QwikValve's website MINI page is not for the MINI. Bought a Fumoto drain valve for my 09 MC. Ordered it from the QwikValve MINI page. Got one labeled "F-106" on the metal valve, but the threaded barrel was too small in diameter for the oil pan.

When I compared it to the picture on the QwikValve page, there was an obvious difference in barrel length and diameter. The website picture showed a valve with a larger diameter and shorter barrel. As noted, both were embossed with "F-106", which is what the website says will fit MINIs.

If anyone has any info, would appreciate it. But in all cases, this is a heads-up if you're considering the valve. I'll be getting the actual drain plug diameter and thread pitch and ordering that way.

Yep something is odd. Putting one of those on an R56 oil pan is just asking for trouble. That thing will hang straight down waiting to be snapped off. Might want to stick with the original drain plug.

NO NO NO

F-106 IS the correct Fumoto for a GEN1 and I highly recommend the product. Unfortunately the Fumoto site does not distinguish MINI application (or not) by year but one might note the drain plug diameter and thread pitch and might see the error of applying to a GEN2

but in NO circumstance would I put one on a GEN2 BIG BIG MISTAKE. Crash' is right on target here. I'd hope NO MINI supplier would list the Fumoto for a GEN2 . . .

a GEN2 drain points straight down and the drain bung is a flush fitting plug with a recessed wrench attachment point. By design the Fum' is going to point straight down protruding an inch and a half and is just BEGGING to be knocked off. (The GEN1, and MOST drains, point to the rear or the side of the pan meaning the Fumoto does NOT stick BELOW the pan and is actually protected BY the pan and anything below that)

the MOSS listing correctly lists GEN1 hatchback application - but omits the rag top 'til 09 ....

repeat - DO NOT try a Fumoto on a GEN2 ..... if anyone cares to argue this one I'm really waiting for your come back . . .

Folks,
You've made a believer of me. The valve goes back. Thanks.
