MINI (only) Salvage Yard
MINI (only) Salvage Yard
Today my son and I stopped by MINI World - a MINI only salvage yard in Sun Valley/L.A. for a 'tour' of sorts. I learned of the place on Craigslist. It was fascinating not only see all manner of parts (53s, 56s, Clubbies..), but also to see MINIs cut in half and sectioned every which way. I observed what looked like a beefy hexagonal 'roll bar' located within a sawed-off 'A-Pillar'. Saw one or two "S-model" engine fire victims with only a few hundred miles on them.. It was oddly entertaining to explore all their skeletal innards.
The proprietor, Ed, was a gentleman and seemed knowledgeable in all things MINI.
The one really impressive thing I came away with was the assurance that structurally, MINIs are built nearly bomb-proof. Ed told recount after recount of post-accident passenger safety and cabin integrity, having personally dismantled literally dozens of cars. He is a staunch believer in the stout build, esp when compared to Honda, Toyota, et al.
He spoke of having recently prepared a MINI for producers of a TV show (I forgot the show's name..?..) by cutting and perforating it to split in two after a 30 mph train impact. The stunt went awry after the car failed to separate! Never to say that our beloved rides are fail-safe but I'm definitely encouraged!
Ed says he's got a 'pick-your-part' style website in process that should be up soon, and commented further that it won't be long and he will be another supporting advertiser of this NAM Community!

Thank for info.
This place seems to be near the Airstream Restoration place I visit often, I will stop in next time I am there. For those in NorCal there is the Mazda/MINI Recycling Center in Rancho Cordova, near Sacto.

I see his posts all the time on craigslist. I thin I emailed him but I never got an answer back. Do they have reasonable prices for used stuff? Wouldnt mind upgrading some more things for my little girl :-)
Re: howsoonisnow1985
This place is a joke. I asked for an armrest for a 2011 clubman and he was asking for $250.00. The complete Xenon housing for $750.00 each piece, which means left and right= $1400.00. What a joke. Don't even bother to check them out. They are way overpriced. Just find a junkyard that may have a mini or someone who specialize in Euro cars.

Thanks for reviving this thread! I pass this place every other week on my way to one of our dealers who is located literally 100 yards from MINI World's front door. I never knew this place was there. Great to know there's a place to get good parts
