How are MINI sales fairing in the bad economy?....

Just back from a trip to Texas. Moritz Mini of Arlington has over 50 MINIs in stock. It was Sunday and they were closed, so I didn't get to talk to anyone.

It seems that MINI dealers probably aren't helped much by the "cash for clunkers" program. I noticed some other car dealerships have a huge number of trade-in vehicles on their back lot awaiting the "death sentence" of having their oil drained and sand/water poured into their engines.

Anyway, I haven't paid much attention lately, just wondered if anyone has a feel for how MINI sales are doing these days?

There is so much road construction in the area of the Texas dealer I mentioned maybe people gave up trying to get to the dealership?

I counted 50 new MINI's out front with several more in the showroom...and their may have been even more out back.

Looks like the place to go for a good deal.

http://www.moritzmini.com/

The home page says $2000 off all convertibles and also mentions 1.9% financing.

After visiting their web page I see they have more than 100 new MINIs....wow!!

Picked up my R57 last Monday in West Chester, PA, it was a clunker deal. When I drove in they already had 5 -6 clunkers in back and the salesman told me the Sales Manager put on extra people that Saturday to write clunker deals so I suspect they have a bunch more by now.

Don't know anyone in Houston who has bought recently, but my dealer and the other in town are both LOADED with cars. I have not been by since the clunkers program started, but a month ago, they probably had 75 cars on the front lot and many more lined up out back. Don't know if they're wheeling and dealing, but I would think they'd almost have to to keep the doors open.

Momentum?

The one in Woodlands are selling like crazy.. I was lucky enough to get mine before it was sold to someone else. My bet is that they sell about 1-3 per day as their stock is shrinking

Went by one of the 2 Atlanta MINI dealers a couple of weeks ago and they had a very good July and Aug was off to a strong start with lots of clunker deals.

I'd be curious to see if there were any non-clunker related deals, besides the 1.9% leases.
