Save the Wave needs more presence!

I live in Atlanta and last night I was driving on 285 going home. In my rear-view I notice another MINI. I have an MCS CR/W. Behind me was an MCS CR/B. How often does that happen???

So as the other driver get's closer i wave....... no response. I move over to the next lane to navigate the faster lanes of stop and go traffic. the other driver comes up next to me. Again, I wave. She wouldn't even look over at me. So this went on for about 10 miles before I had to exit.

I'm very disapointed.

I get less waves than I do:

winks
thumbs up
blinks (lights)
or the i'm-so-cool-now-you're-so-cool head nod, "How YOU doin'?"

But I always try!

Not everyone is in love with their mini nowadays.. some people bought it out of necessity, not for the love of the brand.. but have no fear.. if you run into a true miniac.. they will wave

She was probably nervous that you were stalking her for 10 minutes after dark (assuming as you said "last night"). Try once and if no response move on.

I usually get the chin lift from guys who are driving. You know what I'm talking about. The "I'm seriously busy motoring here, but I see you and your cool factor is great." look.

Gals either wave or don't. There are a LOT of new MINI owners in the area. I've spotted two NFR clubmans this week (not identical, one with black roof and c pillars, the other silver) and both are driven by gals who do not wave.

I wonder if I get "save the wave" motoring badges... will this improve the situation....

You'll always get a wave from me. A couple weeks ago I got a wave from a Smart car!

This weekend we got a thumbs up and a wave from a guy driving a Maxima.

I give a wave and a nod when I see another Mini, but I've only had one person wave back. I must see 5 a day around here, but no Mini love...

Don't expect any waves in the Emory/Morningside area of Atlanta for sure... I got home from MOTD, went to work over there and passed at least six MINIs with no love. If you see my AB/S with pink... I'll definitely wave if I see you hun.

got more then a wave today.... I dropped of my MINI at the dealer to fix a noise issues (turns out it was a loose sway-bar, coincidently, I had dertermined the same thing by reading these forums) and had a loaner clubbie. I was coming back from lunch and pulling into my office complex and a cherry looking CR/B JCW was making a left turn accross my lane and didn't notice me coming right at her. When she saw me, she stopped dead center in my lane. HUH!? She waved sorry and backed up. HUH!? I waved back and tried to emphasize with my wave that she should have just floored it and made it accross without slowing me down or getting into a wreck.

doubt she understood my meaning...

it was Light, LOL!. I just happen to be stuck in traffic next to her. so any stalking was not intentional.

I'm currently motoring with a "Save The Wave" badge on the boot of my '09 Silver/BRG MCC, and it hasn't seemed to make much difference. You'll always get a wave when anyone in my family is motoring, but we receive a return wave about 30% of the time. It's gotten to be a point of conversation with us ... "I saw x number of MINIs on the road today and only y waved at me."

Another poster on the forum made the salient point ... more and more people are buying MINIs for reasons other than love of the car and they're either ignorant of and/or oblivious to the wave. They're not investing themselves in what makes a MINI so unique and so much fun. Sad, 'cuz they're missing one of the most fun aspects of being a member of the MINI family. It's not just a car ... it's a MINI! How cool is it to be able be part of that?!

I'm getting about 1 out of 5 waves back, very sad. Best I've had is 2 MINI's within a mile, and both waved first!

I saw an OxyBlue/Black MINI almost identical to mine a week ago, and I waved as she merged off the highway right behind me. She was following me for almost a mile, and I waved at least 3 times, and NOTHING. I beeped as I turned, and she kept going, and still NOTHING. I mean, come on! OxyBlue, black roof and stripes - that's kind of a rare combo, but I guess she isn't into the whole "living the lifestyle" thing. Her loss.

Me too, I rarely if ever get a wave back in Marietta, let alone a nod. At least the jeep folks get it, I get plenty of waves from other jeep owners while in the wrangler

galoki, I feel your pain. Friday night I was driving home when I saw a PW/B MCS coming towards me. I instinctively wave. In return, they flipped me off. What a sweetheart. So, now a "no wave" is better then being flipped off!

Success... I finally got a wave today! I came up behind a PW/B MCS. The Mini looks sweat with tinted windows. Anyways... I drove up next to it and the driver rolled down the window for the wave. She was cute too...and she knew how to drive a Mini in Atlanta traffic. I was impressed.

So if the driver of the PW/B going north on P'tree Ind at 5pm today is reading this! Thanks for keeping the Wave alive!

For MOTD '09 I made a "Save the Wave" flag to mount on my aerial. Only problem is my aerial is rather flexible and with all the rain I was afraid the excess weight would break it off. I'm in the process of making a mast with a suction cup mounting. I plan on putting it on the rear panoramic roof.

I'll try to post some pics later.

I *waved* at 2 MINIs tonight on the way home, one was a BRG 2nd Gen, the other one was a 1st Gen Gold Color (sorry I'm not up on 1st Gen Specs.).

I got a "NICE BIG SMILE AND A WAVE!!" from the 1st Gen. No acknowledgement from the other one, but who cares the one guy who did wave!!

I don't know if you are a NAM'er or NOT, but Nice MINI!!

I embarrass my Husband all the time 'cause i'm a fanatical waver!! If you're in the Portland Metro Area you'd better expect to S@@ a WAVE from ME!!!

I always give the or wave when I see another MINI. Most times I get a return response, with a smile.

Well RD, I got snubbed by a CR/W with checkers this morning. I was shocked that someone who could drive such a combo would be snobbish, but there it was. I wave and proud of it!

I cannot wait to wave from my own mini. I was test driving a mini last month when deciding on my mini to order and I waved at two minis and got two waves back. And not only that, while I was in front of the dealership looking at the Cabrio a girl in a clubby stopped traffic to tell me " buy it, it is the most fun you will ever have in a car." I love this family!

DixonL2 I'll need one of those I wave stickers, I see you are in Pittsburgh as well.

the wave is also a pretty heavily discussed subject for the MINI club in hawaii. i was really heartbroken when i realized that less than half of the MINI owners in my town wave back or otherwise acknowledge my greeting. i've taken to flashing the peace sign, which seems to me to be less requiring of a reply back. coincidentally, (and some weeks after i switched from the wave to the peace sign) after i saw some MINI marketing material that said the peace sign is the "new wave."

go figure.
