It makes me so sad. i say 1 in 10 wave or nod back to me. most dont even notice me like you said. wtf! i am bright *** metallic light blue and its a mini cooper i mean the white roof and mirrors are kinda hard to miss, especially when they are driving the SAME car. makes me so sad when they dont even look...

Better to light a candle (and wave a hand) than curse the blandness of those less enlightened

Me and my Aunt, when I was little, used to drive around in her neighborhood and honk at random groups of people and honk and wave at them like we knew them. The looks on their faces, like "Who the hell is that", and the shepish waves back would have us both is stiches!

But, ya, I wave most of the time with no reciprocation. Theres another MINI in my nighborhood that is an exact twin of mine and even she doesnt wave.

LaLa Rocks - of course! Just remember to wave at me when you see your sig.

Got one wave yesterday (hooray) and one head shake (guy should be flogged).

Note: The proper wave isn't a high-school-cheerleader multi-move huge smile silly wave - especially for guys (gals, use your best judgement). A subtle but noticeable hand raise from the wheel, small peace sign, or point-at-the-other-mini-without-looking is much preferred. Motorcyclists have it nailed - observe them.

I second that! so who's going to publish the Mini-Wave etiquette guide?

While I enjoy the peace sign I do not like it for the MINI wave. Too over used and generic. , maybe a Thumbs up? I like the high beam flash and or the simple wave from the steering wheel.

I have yet to get a wave since I got my MINI.

How can you say the wave is overused or generic when you have yet to receive one? Just wait until you do, you'll see that it's quite obviously neither.

I like the wave, just not the PEACE sign as the style of wave! I'm all for building the community! I get looks and smiles all the time so I know that people love the MINI's. If you see me you are going to get a quick high beam flash and subtle wave.

I finally got a wave (honk, really) back a week or so ago, after months since my last one. I believe it was a dark grey S with black stripes/top.
In Hawaii I gave the shaka sign (not the shocker :P ) here I usually give a casual hand up, or a highbeam flash.

Not exactly what I meant - that would be more of a "raise two fingers from the wheel" subtle wave. Problem is, these days the difference between a peace sign, a "
hang loose" (or "hook 'em horns") and a shocker or gang sign can get pretty subtle...

This makes me wonder: do Wrangler owners wave more often than MINI owners? I've had my car over eight months and seen countless MINIs. Only one waved. I am not kidding. The driver was in a all-black Clubman. He even had the wheels and chrome areas painted black. It was the meanest looking MINI I've EVER seen. How ironic that he was the only one who waved!

I love the wave! I even got one from an original MINI + a highbeam flash on the highway last weekend. I felt so special.

I do agree with a comment that was made earlier in the post. There are those who buy MINI's because they want a small car. And then there are the true MINI people who believe in the lifestyle.

Do what you can to keep the wave alive....it can spread.

40 years ago Corvette owners always acknowledged each other, now hardly ever. It's a mindset, and a fun one to be part of the "community". When you get a chance to talk to other Mini owners, ask them if they wave? If they don't that gentle reminder will get more of them doing so.
Long Live The Wave !!!

Photos of my new "I wave" logo

Hi,

Check out the thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...till-wave.html I posted some shots of the "I wave" logo I created last night.

The vinyl shop took the Shocker hand, filled it in and die cut an "I" in the middle to create my logo. They used the "tomato red" not the "burgundy red" to create it. Wow wonder what he would of thought if I explained I work in Marketing and I understand PMS colors, RGB and CMYK LOL.

The hand itself is approx. 4" long and it fits perfectly on the top corner of my windshield and doesn't obstruct my view at all. Feel free to take my idea and run with it. I'd love nothing more than to drive down a road one day and see a MINI coming at me sporting one of these LOL

Jo

The word is getting out! Got a few return waves last week. Probably doesn't help that I'm a big hairy scary looking guy. I think all my return waves have been when the g/f is in the car!

You are correct, I get a wave from every Jeep Wrangler when I drive mine instead of the Mini. I work on Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri and everyone waves from Wrangler to Wrangler - and there are lots of them. There are much fewer MINIs (I've counted less than 5) and just yesterday saw a different one, Pepper White with Florida plates. She did not return the wave. The only MINI that has was a Red Bull MINI 2 weeks ago here on post for a Red Bull promotion.
