Got pinged by a state park policeman for "35 in a 25 zone" ... karma, indeed -- I think I woulda felt better if it HAD been for a REAL offense --

I was told a story of a standing rule among one group of MINI acquaintances: if one of them gets pulled over while they're driving in a group, the rest of them will not stop -- because last time they did, the cop then proceeded to walk up the line and write nine more tickets.

We do the same thing down here. It's also nice to have a decoy follow you so they can "break down" at just the right moment, a GTI would work well .

I'm probably going to regret saying this, but I've had my MINI since 3/2003
and I haven't been pulled over (yet). . . and yes, I drive fast, but prudently.

For just a front plate? Here is a fun story,

Whenever I autocross I always cover my plates in tape so they arent seen in the pictures taken at the event. At the end of the day I have a 1.5 hour drive to get home along what can at times be some pretty well patrolled highways. One day on the way home I drive past a cop sitting on the divider with a radar gun out, either I wasnt going fast enough to warrant being pulled over or he was nailing the car behind me, but I swear he had his RADAR pointed right at me doing 77 in a 65 (probably faster given my oversize tires). That freaked me out for the rest of the drive so I kept it slow. I got home looked at the front of my car and noticed that there was still tape on it . Was pretty lucky there I gess.

Another autocross drove I drove home from and I forgot to remove the tape from both plates...

I got pulled over once in the MINI, back when I lived in Florida. Apparently I was exceeding the speed limit pretty excessively in a construction zone. Surprisingly, the cop had a pretty good sense of humor about it all. He asked a few questions about the MINI, talked about how cool he thought they were. All I got was a "you should probably pay a little bit more attention to speed limits... and construction zones. Slow it down, have a nice night." And we went on our way.

It was the most fun I've had with blue lights flashing in the rearview.

having Oklahoma plates in a state of OU football haters!

Pulled over in Texas. I had my grandson in the car seat and my wife was in the back with him. Just got a verbal warning to "slow down and be safe". After he told me I wasn't getting a ticket, I had to ask him how fast he got me. 69 in a 65 MPH zone. I think it was having Oklahoma plates in a state of OU football haters! Oh well, We're playing in the National Championship game tomorrow night!

I've been pulled over twice in my Mini Cooper, talked myself out of a ticket both times. First time was the week after I bought it 3 1/2 years ago. A friend and I were returning from a 1100 mile break-in trip during which we had exceeded the speed limit many times, but we were only 10 miles from home and I was stopped by an OHP trooper for going 65mph in a 55 mph zone. I recognized him as the officer who responded to the accident my wife and son were in a year or two earlier and he was in our home for an hour or so. He didn't remember me, but after a brief conversation he let me off with a verbal warning.

The 2nd time was a couple of years ago when I was heading to a dentist appointment and was late. It was around 9am and I was just within city limits and just outside of a school zone on wet roads. I got clocked by a stationary Sheriff's Deputy using rear facing radar about a quarter mile ahead of me. He said he clocked me doing 52 in a 35 mph zone. I explained that I was late for my dentist appointment, he checked my record, found out it was clean, and let me go with a verbal warning.

FWIW my wife has been pulled over once in the Mini, and got a ticket last year for around 20 mph over IIRC. It was only her 2nd ticket in more than 20 years of driving.

When I was younger I used to average a speeding ticket every year and a half to two years from the time I was 16 until I was 30, 8-10 tickets in all. I received two tickets in less than six months when I was 29-30, but my last ticket was the last one when I was 30, and I've been pulled over many time in the eight years since, but always get off with warnings. I'm convinced that my age and clean record have everything to do with it. Things I always used to get tickets for I only get warnings for now. Gotta love it. I even stopped using my radar/laser detector a few years ago.

After 22 years of ticket free driving, I got pulled over TWICE and within 48 hours of each incident (On the same street mind you...Yeah what a fool I was) on my '05 MCS back in March '08.

First instance: 53 on a 35 MPH zone. Nice cop, gave me a warning and let me off the hook (It was a speed trap)

Second instance 60 on a 40 MPH zone (1 mile away from the first time I got stopped). Motorcycle cop, no clemency. $226.50 speeding ticket. In Florida you can do the online traffic school and get a reduction. After eveything was said and done the little mishap cost me $240.

NEVER AGAIN WILL I SPEED. Speeding doesn't pay folks!

It you have a lead foot, take it to the track.

On a trip from Prescott to Colorado Springs and back to Phoenix in 3 days I was pulled over 3 times. The second time was on the Million Dollar Highway from Silverton to Ouray (CO) at night, the deputy said he was trying to catch me (only after I got in town) for about 6 miles in his Blazer; he didn't get a radar lock, so warned me about elk on the highway. ~huge sigh of relief~

That convinced me to get a detector.

Nope. Never been pulled over. *knock on wood*

Although my brothers say that is because I don't drive my MINI fast or in a spirited manner which is just not true. I just say that driving fast is for a particular time and place. I can do it, but I only do it occasionally because I'm a smart driver.

They call me Captain Slow at times.

oops

twice..once in indana 72 in a 55..$142 and once in my home town in illinois the other day. i always fly thru this neighborhood to cut off a stop light on the way to work and i guess the people were calling and making complaints that i would drive thru to fast. long story short there he was, johny law, wating there for me one morning and luckly the garbage man cut me off or i probably would have never slowed down... johny law waited till i passed then pulled out to follow me ( no lights or anything ) so i pulled over assuming he would have pulled me over anyway, basicly told me to slow down .. .sure enough someone called and complained ..thoes ****ers!! the cop was nice enough to not give me a ticket, warning, or any **** and didnt say anything about the window tint ($75 ticket) either haha..im going to get a fog horn and drive thru that neighborhood at 6:30am on the way to work at 5 under, just to be that *******!!! i bet they will appreciate that!!!

+1 I just picked up a friend in my neighborhood to go get some breakfast. It was about 8o'clock on a Saturday morning so there wasn't anyone on the roads.

I took a right onto this 4 lane street in my neighborhood were its easy to pop up to 120 and back to the speed limit (30) with ease. So I gun it as soon as I came straight putting the windows down and sunroof open in the process. 2-3-4-5th gear 90mph......a stationary cop watching me do the whole thing hidden behind a big rock about 400 ft down the road. He saw the whole thing. Caught red handed on radar. oops

So yeah, I pull over immediately and start imagining which police station I will be spending the night in. Licence and registration......pause....a real long one too. He just stood there. So, uh, do you know how fast you were going?........."Yes sir, I believe you clocked me going about 92mph." Actually 85. "?good brakes?" I didn't know little cars could go that fast?

What in the hell where you in a hurry to get to?
" To be honest sir I was just showing off how fast I could get it to 100(or faster) and back to 30 since the roads were empty and its such a beautiful day outside."

What do you guys do? "We're both in the Navy." It probably wouldn't look good if both of you ended up in jail today would it? "No sir, especially since we're both about to deploy." Uh-huh. Just wait here a minute.

Goes to his cruiser and checks out my stuff. All clean, no tickets. Comes back, hands me a warning/license and registration. Have a nice day and do try and keep it within limits in town. Can do.............

First, I am always amazed at the speed I can get to before I even get to 6th. (Actually, 4th is pretty impressive.) And second, saying you were "showing off how fast... to get to 100" is now a better excuse than "I have to pee"? That's crazy! Maybe I'll try that one next time.

I was pulled over once in Trouble, one of the first days I was driving her (before she was mine). It was 1/1/2008, and I was on the way to work at 7am. I was the only car on the 8 lane freeway for at least 1/4 mile in each direction, but I unfortunately made the unwise decision to travel at 85mph (limit: 65). The CHP Officer on a bike was sitting under an underpass and started to roll off the embankment when I was about 1000' away. I saw him and knew immediately that I was being pulled over, and even though I got off and stopped the car as quickly as safely possible, I still received a ticket, although he wrote it for 10 less than I was traveling given my cooperation and politeness. I deserved it, and I accept responsibility. I try not to travel any faster than the pace of quicker traffic these days, but sometimes it's tough! I definitely DO NOT condone unsafe driving or breaking the law, but we all make mistakes every now and again...

Long story short, I paid the $340 ticket and haven't been stopped since. *knocks on wood*

Oh, and my mom got pulled over doing 95 into Vegas right after I told her that she needed to watch it since the new exhaust encourages driving faster!

Why don't you just do the speedlimit in a neighborhood? We have pinheads that do that in our neighborhood and it's not fun. I call the cops on em too. When someone gets killed it won't be so damn fun anymore!! It's easier to leave a little earlier for work. Jeeez

Not yet, but I doubt the story will be the same by the end of the spring...

I commute ~115 miles three days a week on roads that are just scaled-down American versions of the Autobahn.
