Why do so many people on this forum post without indicating where they are from?

It should say I live in Mountain View, California.
If you asked me where I was from, I'd probably say "Britain". I moved to the US over 15 years ago, before that I lived in various places in Britain including Oxford.

I'm currently stationed in Monterey, California, so that's what in my profile, but before I came here, I was in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area, and that's where I'm going back to when I leave here in June, so that's why I still have the "Hampton Roads Club MINI" badge in my signature picture.

Spokane, WA... which is actually nowhere near Seattle, or Baltimore. Nor is it all that close to Mt. St. Helens, or Mt. Ranier, though I receive phone calls and emails frequently asking me if I am all right every time the volcano burps, or there is some disaster show running on the Discovery channel...

When I read other posts I find it helpful to know where the person is from. Different states have much different driving conditions and therefore much different effects on their Mini.
