LEDs Behind Gauge Faces

The MINI: 2006 Hyper Blue Justacooper

The WANT: Get rid of all the orange LEDs...ESPECIALLY the ones on the gauges...and replace with red (best-suited for night vision) or blue (to coordinate with the Hyper Blue).

I've done searches on NAM...found links from Imagox, but none that addressed the gauge faces. There were several posts from 03Indigo, but the text appears to have been deleted and replaced with "..." for some reason. (What's the scoop?)

Anyhow, I'm looking for input & a "how to" so that I can move forward with the me-ification of Schultze.

Thanks in advance!

Erika

It involves removed the LEDs from the circuit board and soldering on new ones.

Blue and green LEDs would actually go great as a combo. I've seen the Modifications forum talk about it but did not really go indepth on 'how to' make those changes.

Is there a step-by-step anywhere?

I know how to solder...I just need to know what type/size LEDs to get, how many, etc.

Member Foxtrot_Xray has done the conversion a few times. Have you seen this thread (note post #43): https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...13#post1420313

The LEDs are SMT (surface mount technology) which was designed for manufacturing and not easy to replace or service. You'll need very precise soldering skills and specialized tools.

Yes indeedy, changing surface mount LEDs is a true PITA, and without some care and practice, you can ruin the board. Take care, there.
