Round-a-bout Temptation Survey

I've had my Clubman S for almost a month now and like most have attested, the "grin" is becoming permanent!

On several of my local drives, I encounter various small round-a-bouts and have had a "strange" sensation come over me when I went into the first one and each one since getting my MINI.

So, I thought I'd do a quick survey to see if any other MINI owners have the same "affliction?"

"When entering a round-a-bout, do you ever consider missing your exit and going all the way 'round till you can exit again?"

For those of you that answer "yes" -

1 - Have you actually done it?
2 - If you did "miss" the exit, how many times did you go 'round till you finally exited?

I succumbed to the thought today - went round 2 times and had a blast! Confused the H#$@ out of the other drivers though! I think I have a new favorite route now to the Costco!

We have round-abouts here and although the temptation to go completely around for no reason hasn't struck me, what has is to absolutely hammer it through when there's no one around. I used to do it in the Miata and hang the tail out half way 'round. The Mini is almost as fun with a little less oversteer. I prefer to take a few left and right turns rather then go round and round like a washing machine.

There are a few around here and I've decided you have to make a loop before continuing on. Most are out of my way in routine trips, so when I encounter one, I do the loop.

I've also decided whoever builds them around here doesn't know what they are doing. A yield doesn't necessarily consist of a stop, but these are too tight to merge, and they have two lanes. I think the intersections were quicker with the 4way stop. But then again, I'm doing the loop which is way more fun.

Funny you should mention this. Just yesterday, as I drove a friend home from work, we went through the small peanut-shaped roundabout in the neighborhood. It has nice, tight little left and right turns in quick succession. I was laughing about how much fun it's going to be to drive "the Peanut" every day when I get my MINI, and how I'll probably "accidentally" miss my exit on a regular basis.

I have one at the end of my street by the grammar school. When school's out I'm going to have to go around it a few times

We have a round-about at the end of the rural road that we live on and I've done multiple three-wheeled laps on many occasions but only when no one else is around...it's dizzying.

We don't have a lot of round-a-bouts in our area. One is pretty close and I have gone around it a couple of times for fun, when there isn't much traffic, which is rare in our congested area of Jersey. It's a lot of fun.

No round-abouts here either. I will say that the 25MPH off-ramps are quite fun.

Also no roundabouts here, though I frequently succumb to taking the nine mile twisty route home rather than the one mile straight route when running out for groceries. Negates any fuel savings, but DAMN it's fun!

No roundabouts in these parts, but donuts in the school parking lot are fun!

There are some in the neighborhoods around here. One good one is at the intersection of two semi-major streets. It is a bad idea to go around and around, anything more than a right hand turn or going straight through is a bad idea. I wanted to turn left once and carried too much speed through it and hit the curb. That was years ago though. Going straight though is best, it makes a sort of chicane with a double apex corner at the end.

I live up Happy Valley way so there are a couple of 2 lane round-a-bouts at the freeway exit. I like to slingshot the less aggressive drivers on the outside through the turns. A few have actually tried to keep up. I have done a double but never with any traffic volume.

We have a few roundabouts and I am tempted to just keep going around but the problem here is most drivers don't understand how to use them. Most just see the roundabouts as a slight curve to take a full speed, no matter who is already in the roundabout. I have been in the circle several times and almost been hit by some jerk who decided they should just enter the roundabout no matter what is going on.
So no, I have not taken the whole thing for fear of being hit by the typical distracted drivers.

Ha! there is one that i go around almost daily to go in and out of town, currently i drive an E36 M3 while waiting for delivery of my MCS and sometimes at 3 in the AM when im comming home from being out with the guys ill just lay into it and see if i can get my nose about pointed at the center while going around, its a blast.

that same round about my friend Jeremy and i went around 53 times before the cops came and we ducked out. we had droped his dad off at the Doc's right next to it and didnt feel like sitting in the lot so we figured we would see how many "laps" we could get in before someone called the police. Granted that was in a boring old civic but it was still a blast for a couple of bored High school kids!

Yes. Two times around. I have done it multiple times.
Great fun in the Mini.
Even more fun with unsuspecting passengers.

This thread makes me think of the add for I think Mitsubishi where they guys keep going around the freeway on/off ramp clover leafs. So maybe MINI should do one going round and round roundabouts.

I've never been tempted to do that. Half the fun of a roundabout is to get from entry to exit as fast as possible, which requires quick changes of direction, just what a MINI is made for.

There aren't that many roundabouts around here, and no good ones. Where I come from in the UK, there are lots and lots of really good ones, they liven up what could otherwise be a relatively boring journey.
