Rear Bumper Protection Strip
Rear Bumper Protection Strip
So I'm considering getting this for our Mini, but I'm trying to find some pictures of it installed on a car. I found a picture in one thread and saved it, but couldn't find many of it actually close up. Am I correct in that it's actually just vinyl? If so does anyone know about how thick it is? I'm just wondering since if it's vinyl I assume it wouldn't be nearly as strong as the material used for clearbra on the front of the car, so I would think it'd be easier to scratch/scuff the bumper protector. Is it true you can get it in either black or clear? I'm assuming there is no raised pattern on the material, that it's just smooth? Does the material extend back far enough to cover the "edge" of the bumper, basically does it cover the horizontal and part of the vertical section of the bumper? On our current car that edge is where we've scratched it up, so I want to make sure it covers that area. My MA told me that it doesn't cover that area, but looking at the pictures on Mini Usa I'm pretty sure it does and that he's incorrect.
Thanks for the help.

Are there different versions of it for the different generations of cars or something? This is the picture I had found previously posted in a thread, and it does show it coming over the back edge, while yours looks like it doesn't.

And a question for you, do you carry your race tires in the back of your car? That's one reason I'm thinking of putting this on the car, so if I'm taking tires out of the hatch fairly often I don't have to worry if I hit the bumper with them as much. How well has your strip held up?

I have two big dogs....we did a road trip to NC a few years back and they scratched up the bumper getting in and out, so, this seemed a logical solution. It's held up great...looks as good as new.
Have any idea why the picture I posted is a different strip than the two you posted? The picture of the red car is what is shown on the morristownmini.com website as the strip for '06 and earlier cars. The strip shown on their site for the '07 newer cars is:

I can't find a bigger picture than that. But it's the same as what I posted previously. This version wraps over the edge, and doesn't curve out into the corners of the flat section of the bumper as cleanly as the ones you posted do.

might just be separate SKU's for old vs. new. mine just barely goes over the edge of the flat part.

Your car is the previous generation, correct? I'm thinking maybe the bumper size is slightly different, which is maybe why they changed it. I almost want to buy your version and try it out, because I think it looks a LOT better going into the corners more.
Molly is a 2Gen with the Bumper Protection. Check my Gallery in "Molly's 1st Detail". This should give you an idea about coverage, it is a Gritty material and IMO works just fine. Cleans up well too.
You can also get a clear strip. I have one which works like a clear bra but for the bumper. I has worked well. No picture as you could not see it.
I think I only paid about $15 from one of the vendors.

I know this is an old thread but I'm in need of one of these. I like this one from Outmotoring http://www.outmotoring.com/heavy-dut...per-guard.html
My only concern is that it won't fit exactly flush. Anyone have this one? How is the fit?
