I concur that you did the right thing. Observing damage being done to your car, - accidently or not - you are in the right to seek a resolution. Some may think it's "just a car", but that is not the point here. Expensive damage was done and you should not have to bear the burden for it. 99.9% of the time, those who ding doors think nothing of it and the dingee is left frustrated and footing the bill.

I park in spaces close to my building and yet care... the parking lot is pretty big at the office.

So here's an update from the OP - the PDR cost $175. Not cheap. Turns out that the rear quarter panel is sort of hard to get to from behind. The driver of the other car has agreed to pay, and the car looks good as new. For me, this confirms my view it was the right thing to do to say something; others may still disagree. Cheers to all.

I've only noticed it with BMWs. I had a used 3 series but
in primo condition. When I parked at sams, way out, when
I returned there would always be 1 or 2 other BMWs parked
beside me.
It's happened in a couple of non sams parking lots.

I've not noticed this phenomena with any other make yet.

wn,

That's excellent news. I'm glad to hear that your MINI is back to where it should be. When I had a quote on one of my cars (non-MINI) the cost was almost $400. I got two estimates. For me the paint was chipped the size of a nickle.

It would be nice if more vehicles had these, then these problems wouldn't be an issue.

Dude, I wonder if they will mail you stacks of business cards so that you could like.. stick them under the windshield wipers on Escalades, Yukons and F250s...

Every car should have one of those!
