CA hwy 155 Twisties
SCMM does that run every April. It is one of the best twisty runs in SoCal. Caliente Bodfish Road off the 58 - to Lake Isabella - then 155 from Wofford Heights back over the mountain.
We then head back to Bakersfield.
No problem. And if you are going up to Paso, you MUST make a side trip and do Highway 229. East on the 41 from Atascadero, take 229 south and it hooks back up with 58 at Santa Margarita on the 101. Trust me, you HAVE to run this one too!!
Unfortunately, 229 will drop us down to far south. It will be the end of the day at that point(wine and dinner will then be a priority)....but,at the crack of dawn the following day we will take Santa Rosa road(cut off hwy 46 over to 1)....It looks fun.

edit: kind of funny this thread showed up, i'm heading up to Kernville weds for some camping

Breckinridge Road on the Caliente Bodfish side is what the motorcycle sites call a "goat trail". Not dirt but so overgrown and with so many rocks on the bad asphalt that I would not do it except on a bike. I went in about 2 miles from that side and turned around - the road was so narrow that it was a 5 point turn I think - and came back out. The other end is probably better. Looks great on Google Earth -the reality is a bit different.
The rest of your route sounds great. Bring extra water. Don't break down!!
PS - Spend the $20 per year for Pashnit!!

what's this pashnit?
edit: n/m, i googled it.
I agree with CFMINI. I live about 60 miles south of Paso Robles and have driven many back roads between Monterey and Los Angeles. Hwy 229 is one of the best. Very nice pavement, tight turns, and elevation changes. It is like a smooth roller coaster. If you can modify your route it is worth the trip.
