First Scratch/Glass Explosion -- Thank You Clear Bra
First Scratch/Glass Explosion -- Thank You Clear Bra
I got my first "scratch" on my new MCS Wednesday evening. I've never seen anything like it.
I was driving home on I-405 from Bellevue. A car ahead and in the lane next to me must have run over a tempered glass window. The glass exploded. I didn't have time to do anything but drive through a dense glass explosion.
My windshield is ruined - there's about one crater per square inch across the whole thing. But the paint ... looks fine.
There were shards of glass embedded in my clear bra - about one per square inch. But I see only one or two small craters anywhere in my paint. Fortunately, the height of the explosion was just to the top of my windshield and no higher. Below that, every surface not covered by clear bra is apparently at an acute enough angle that glass that did hit skittered off with virtually no damage.
$350 to replace the windshield.
$0 to fix the paint.
Amazing.
I'd normally be on my motorcycle in nice weather, but the car is still so new that I'm driving it all the time, thankfully. I would have had bloody knuckles. I guess I got that first scratch thing taken care of. Now I can relax.

Thanks. I didn't have time to do much of anything other than stay calm!
(After another look, the craters on my windshield are closer to 3-4 per square inch. New windshield tomorrow.)
If you are hauling anything in a truck, please secure your load.
