UPDATE:

Gromit is in the shop as of last night. The parts are already in.
They gave me a new (ish) Jetta as the rental. Decent car.

I had one behind me the other evening. Was talking on the cell phone, sipping out of a water bottle, and following me way too closely, and stopped practically on my bumper at a couple of traffic lights, and even inched closer. There was a slowish car ahead of me to boot so I couldn't put any distance between me and said twit. So I pulled over to the side. Would rather have the idiot in front of me than behind me. I hadn't been that uncomfortable with a driver behind me in a long time.

What happened to you is when I wish I had a cell phone disruptor in my car. I have noticed that since the handset ban took effect in CA, I've only seen one person in two days with a cell phone to their ear.

One of the girls in our club has a sign she made "HANG UP AND DRIVE!" And it's in her car all the time.
