Loaner Car
First time I took my new 02 in for service they were out of loaners but picked up the tab for a rental.
I was given a Lincoln Town Car ..... I was looking for line handlers and a bow thruster to get that into my parking space in a basement garage ....

My only loaner for my clubman was a '07 justacooper - ok since it got 43mpg. I need to get another loaner next week and asked them if I could use the '08 Bentley GTC they had on display (used price was $196,000
). He just said, "You too? get in line, behind the dealership owner"

With Cincinnati MINI, I've always been provided w/a loaner a no charge. Usually it's a 3 series (328, 328xi, 335 - LOVED IT) or an X3. Got lucky twice w/an '07 MCS and a MCS convertible.
My dealer officially does not offer loaners.
It isn't too big of a deal if they only have the car for a day, but is pretty inconvienent if they keep it for 4-5 days.
Occasionally, I get lucky and can get a car off the BMW guys. There used to be a few MINI loaners, but those have pretty much disappeared since the mad rush for MINIs started a few months back.

My Mini is on an extended warranty work stay at the dealer. Although a loaner was promised and reserved the last thing the dealer asked for before handing over the loaners key was my credit card. The dealer requires a credit card to cover unspecified charges and coverages for their loaner. This was a new requirement to me and I did not feel compled to give them a open ended credit line. Eventually some important person on the other end of the sales managers phone said it was for fuel in case I did not return the car topped off. To cover a full 13.5 gallion empty tank I offered cash, a rolex watch, gold boullion, but only a credit card would do. I got my own ride home after the 1 1/2 hour 'quick' drop off negotiations and am looking forward to completing their quality assurance survey. They did say their loaner pool were all R56 justa Coopers including the loaned they showed me.
I think that taking a credit card is pretty standard. Like they said they just use it for gas, toll violation, speeding and red light camera tickets. I have not head of anyone that had a problem, although I am sure there is someone who has a story about how a dealer tried to screw them. I would rather give them a credit card than a Rolex or gold, I can call my credit card company and fight the charges if the dealer does something stupid. If I gave am a Rolex or gold then they have something of actual value that I would never get back. Besides if you bought your car from that dealer then they have all you credit information from when you bought the car (I think they keep it for 3 or 5 years), assuming you did not pay cash.
I would not slam them on the survey because they asked for a credit card. The techs and service advisors really have no control over that. But it is up to you.

what will i get?
i have to take my mini up to the dealer for it to get fixed. i have rust on the bottom of the drivers side door. they said that they will have my car for 4-5 days!! i will be lost without it... haha but my real question is what kind of loaner do you think they will give me? the dealer is towne mini in williamsville in new york. i was wondering if there was anyone on here who has had experience with them? one more thing. i am only 17 and i dont know if they will get me a loaner because of my age? will i have to have a parent with me or something? or will i be good?
I would take a parent, I would be very very surprised if they would give you a car. I think most dealers, or the insurance companies, require you to be 21. Hopefully, your parents will let you drive their car, and they can take the MINI Loaner. It is not worth the risk if something were to happen when you were behind the wheel.
