great movie . . . I can't say that I saw the movie differently after owning my MINI. But IMDB Italian Job had some interesting trivia about the movie that made me see the movie differently, especially reading about how Charlene Theron got two speeding after shooting the movie because she couldn't keep her speed down.
As a Brit I grew up with the original version and my first car was a '72 Mini 1000.
When the re-make (?) came out I went to see it and pretty much hated every second of it. I have subsequently watched it, but still find it hard to watch as it is, in my opinion, a terrible movie that is only slightly watchable due to the inclusion of the MINI's.

[SIZE=2]It is hard to watch the movie without applying what "we know" about MINIs. For example, I didn't understand why they acquired 3 cars for the job, with 1 being an S model and the other 2 being "justacoopers". And then, they paid someone to improve the performance of the cars. Wouldn't it have been better to start with 3 S-models? Perhaps I'm biased as an S owner or its been a long time since I've seen the movie.
The IMDB reference in the second post reminded me of this cool website: IMCDB.org That is, Internet Movie CAR Data Base. Try it to identify models, bodykits, etc. For me, it answers those not so obvious movie-car debates, like what was that strange looking sedan sparring with the Audi A8 in "Ronin"? Answer: 1990 Citroen XM.

My wife found the modern Italian Job for me the week I ordered my MINI. It was in the $5 bin at wal-mart.
I'm baching it this weekend so I watched it again last night. I still enjoyed it, Charlise is a major hottie and so are the cars! But just as interesting to MINI owners and soon to be owners, the special features of the dvd have some of the back ground info on the MINIs and the 32! they used to make the film.

Prezactly!!! I can't explain what fun it was being an owner when the film came out in 2003!!!
I like both versions of TIJ, btw...and I am amazed by the number of people (typical movie goers) I meet who love the newer film and know very little about MINIs. I guess it is just a good story...how would I know, I'm far from objective!!!
This was about nimble and quick....Coopers are shockingly good at that.
I think these MINIs had the standard aero kits but with black mirror caps, which was something not commonly available.

Well, we saw the Italian Job long before we bought our MINIs. I saw the original also a long time agot (the wife didn't till recently) and think both movies are good in their own way, but still favor the original myself.
Anyhoo, after watching the recent one, my wife would talk about no other car but the MINI. She's never owned a brand new car in her life either. So, after a major surgery last year, I decided to make two of her wishes come true. So, in august she ordered her very own, brand spanking new yellow MINI with black top. So, now she drives around town much like Carlize Theron.
As to seeing the movie differently, lol, now we try to identify all the different MINIs in the movie.

That is correct. They would not allow combustion engines in the subway.

After I became a proud " S" owner 2 weeks ago (Lightning Blue, Premium, Sport and Cold Weather) I popped in the DVD just to look a little closer at the MINI scenes. Loved it! Lots of eye candy, some with four wheels and some without. I've heard they used upwards of 35 MINI's to make the movie. Seems they were bumping into things quite frequently and with vigor. The reason they had just one "S" and a couple of scoop-less Coopers was well, that's all they could get at the time. They were wrecking them faster than they could find replacements. I also heard that they did in fact use electric versions in the tunnel scenes because of the exhaust fume dangers. More fun to watch now with one parked in my garage.
I was thinking that they should have stayed level coming out of the sewer tube instead of dropping nose down.
