Trouble sharing MINI with spouse?
We bought a 08 Mini S to replace the wifes SUV. Iam having a hard time with the whole sharing thing. The mini is just so fun to drive. I have my own car but its not as sporty. Anybody else have this problem. Guess I have to grow up but I dont want to.
sharing? such a broad and flexible term...
fortunately, my sweetie's Dad left her his Olds Aurora - which she adopted for sentimental reasons (nice car also mind you)
she did reserve the right to take my keys at the appearance of a speeding ticket in my first year of operation - which i bridled at on principal (feeling like a 17 year old and chuckling like a 53 year old)
so just to settle the matter i put coil overs and a few other bits on it, which changed the ride from firm to "go cart".
now she won't drive it!

Sharing our '08 MC "Molly" is not that hard...We only got her on Saturday!!
But truthfully we took a 70+ Mile trip down South, not for FUN, but to go to a Store to buy iPods!!
Anyway, Hubby drove down started having shoulder pain, so I drove back. I would have let him drive home. It is OUR car...OUR Carpool Car M-F. And those days I drive, he's to impatient in traffic, he'd rather play his DS.

My husband didn't seem like it was a big deal, he kept saying that it was a "cute" car, but not for him. Now that I haven't let him drive it, he's getting impatient. He finally admitted he wanted one and his Element is only a year old! We've already talked about getting another one.
When we started talking about replacing my car, my wife said: "You need a mid-life crisis car and it should be a MINI."
Me: "I don't want a MINI."
She: "How do you know? You don't know anything about them."
Well, I found out about them and now ours is on a ship.
She: "You would never have looked at or ordered one if it hadn't been for me. You can drive it for one week, and then we're sharing."
Can't argue with that.

we are there with you
Don't worry, the first step to recovery is first admitting that you have a problem, the second step is well, getting another MINI.
I had my Clubman for only 2 weeks and my husband just had to have his own because I frankly refused to share, so we picked up and 08 MCS in Astro Black...
We love them both...just spent the whole day washing and waxing....clean waxed cars make us both happy.

We got my wife's MINI in May of 2006, and I started "stealing" it so much that she finally told me get my own. So, in August of 2006, we ordered mine.
And that's why we have *two* 2006 convertible 'S' models. Even the wheels are the same (we both got Web-Spokes). In fact, other than exterior and trim colours, our cars were optioned identically, except that I got the garage door opener on mine.

This is so funny !! Tomorrow we will take delivery of our second MINI MCS since I am having so much fun with mine that I am unable to left my wife drive it. Tomorrow she will have her own and they will be 4 months apart in birth dates

We had one, and when we went to MINI events, Sherry would fall asleep when I drove.
When she drove, I ruined her fun by hanging on to the passenger handle screaming, "We are all going to die"!
Then I bought my own. Now we are back down to one, but I am keeping an eye out for another cheap MINI for me.
Poor Flame Car is now freezing in the Ukraine.

Why on earth would you ever want to grow up. I'm 61 and I have no idea what I want to do when I grow up. Your wife loves her MINI. You love her MINI. Your own car is not as sporty. Connect the dots!
I've had my Mini less than 10 days, but I've already gotten into the pattern of sharing with my hubby. I have a crazy commute (155 miles round trip, 3 to 4 days a week), so I get plenty of time to drive my car, and drive it in ways that would make hubby hold onto the passenger handle and yell.
So I've been letting him drive it on the weekends as much as he wants. We only made it out of the dealership without two because we hadn't brought his car along to trade in. He's starting to spec out what he wants, and I think we'll probably order one for him later this summer. Then it'll just be a question of whose Mini and who gets to drive (his and him, I'm sure!)

I definitely peer pressured the hubby into getting a MINI of his own mostly so I could drive at events too. After all, he fell for MINI's after we got Bruto. Being a 2 (or more) MINI household is definitely the way to go ;-)
Works out well for my wife and I at the moment. She's an RN and works nights, so she sleeps most of the day. She drives the MINI to work at night, pulls in the garage around 7:45am. I leave for work about 8:15am drive the MINI to work and get back home about 5:15pm and she leaves for work about 6:15pm. Everyone is happy (for now).
On of these days when she goes to days, this will come to a head, but for now it works well. I guess technically we bought the MINI for her, but boy, it sure is fun to drive and I steal it whenever I can! She's nice enough to share most of the time!
