Trouble sharing MINI with spouse?
While I am not married I purchased my MINI while dating the same girl. I have only let her drive once, and the way she kept not finding first was a problem. However she is getting tired of her current car, and is looking at maybe a Clubman for the slightly extra room.
This thread cracks me up!
My husband was a total non-believer when I bought my first - an '04. I already had a (insert small voice) collection of vehicles, but I really wanted a new one. Loved it! He drove it a few times, but didn't really dig it -- he had his spiffy new BMW 330i, and always drove like he was Driving Miss Daisy! (He wasn't allowed to drive my 4x4 either...didn't respect the power!) When we both decided to upgrade to newer models before leaving Europe (drawn by the prices!!), the light dawning on him was amazing to literally watch!! I'm not sure why it didnt' sink in with the '04, but the ordering & purchase of the '07 has made him much more of a believer...He's even taken up the role of "defender of the Mini faith" when it comes to practicality of the vehicle. He just doesn't understand the maniacal facination with all things Mini.
He's still terrified of my driving -- he routinely does the holding-on-for-dear-life thing and screams "we're gonna die!!"....... except he thinks he means it.
The screams ARE very convincing. Not sure if there's a Mini in his future, but he didn't EXACTLy say no to a new one...

This thread cracks me up too because I see this every day at work (MINI dealership)!! I especially love when one of the couple doesn't like their partners choice in a MINI........UNTIL they drive it!!!

if you have 3 minis, I really doubt you will ever find a need to share it
My wife is in Georgia and finishing up her Masters. She will be with me starting August and she has already claimed that she will be getting this Mini.
Yeh right!!

Your problem is buying her the car... I drive the Mini. My wife is welcome to buy another if she wants to drive it.
I must say though, it wasn't a problem this past week. She wanted nothing to do with the Dragon. In fact, she said she would have COASTED around the turns instead of braking hard before them and accelerating hard out of them like I did.
And glad your wife will be back with you soon and you will be another Multi-MINI family !!
Notmini, this isn't a "sharing" issue, it's a "jealousy" issue! In other words, not her issue, but yours!
If your car's not as sporty, do you need a car that's sportier? Or are you forced (by profession or public perception) to drive something that's (right or wrong) perceived as more upscale, or socially responsible, or with more passenger capacity?
Heck, just do what most of us did - suck it up and just get one. You know you want it.

It might not, but ya know...something shiny can be a little distracting at first. Speedwing, I'd say this has only meant a delay!
I don't have too many problems with sharing...for now.
I let my husband drive it the first weekend I got it, to show him how fun they are. He was impressed and is now content to drive it on the weekends when we're out and about.
I have no problem letting him take it one day a week...his s2000 is pretty fun to drive too. Any more days than that...no sir!
Although, I find it interesting that he's way more interested in modifying my car than his right now! I guess I shouldn't complain...I've always loved receiving car parts "just because" more than flowers.

Works out well for my wife and I at the moment. She's an RN and works nights, so she sleeps most of the day. She drives the MINI to work at night, pulls in the garage around 7:45am. I leave for work about 8:15am drive the MINI to work and get back home about 5:15pm and she leaves for work about 6:15pm. Everyone is happy (for now).
I jest I jest.

Hubby wanted in at the start - first weekend of ownership in February we drove the MCS almost equally (but it is actually my car...).
Next weekend he made the announcement that he was taking his new car for a drive. Uh-huh.
I should add here that we're recently married (what's yours is mine, and what's mine is mine
). So....uh-huh. Sure honey, that's fine... says me.
Next weekend, I'm driving and hubby's admiring an Audi. Trust me, since then I've been pushing the Audi like a crack dealer on a street corner. As for my MINI? Driving it every day (hubby works from home), and now it's marked inside with my scent...no more equal shares
Well, unless I have to!! (losing a bet, or something....)

I'm not allowed to say "mine" either... it's ours! I drive it as the commuter car during the week and usually
let Rick drive on the weekends. But we both drove at the Dragon... 2 trips each! And we've had to share when we took the practical driving course in Kilgore, TX. So yes, the second MINI has already been mentioned!

well, I just ordered mine yesterday, on the way home from the dealership, my husband already asked when it comes in if he could take it to work to "show it off"... I don't know but this might be how it starts!
That is the problem with Black, looks great in the showroom, but all that time I spend just detailing up my roof! Next one is going to be SS with a body color roof! But I don't know when I will get her to give up her Crossover SUV, maybe when gas hits $5.00! She really hasn't used my new one yet, but I am negotiating to take it on vacation in July, so we will see. Her car only gets about 18 or 19mpg. We really NEED a 2nd one, HONEY. Happy Mother's Day! As you can see by my profile I trade cars a lot. Glad to be back in MINI, though, REAL GLAD!
