noone wants my car :(
I can't get anyone to buy my stupid car. I told myself I wouldn't buy a MINI until I sold my car. It's been almost 2 months.... I just put it on autotrader so hopefully that works. Just wanted to vent a little.... Let me know if anyone wants a sweet trans am so I can finally get into a mini!!!

I owned an '06 Honda Pilot 4x4...selling it was a pre-requisite to buying my MINI (or so I thought).
I advertised it in AutoTrader, CraigsList, and the paper....no luck for months. It was reasonably priced. I'd paid $36.5K. I wanted $25K. It had 10K miles, was pristine, and was only 10 months old.
The price of fuel, the decline in the SUV market, and a general sense that the masses were looking for something more "green"...the truck just sat.
Finally, I couldn't stand it any longer. I bought my MINI anyway.
We traded the truck in about a year later on our third MINI. Lost our a$$ on the truck...but good riddance.
It looks like the gas prices are affecting the seconhand sale of SUVs/PickUps and larger engine cars.
I had the same problem while trying to sell my 05 Nissan Frontier. It was on almost every autotrader/craiglist type site, for just over 2 months, and only got one phone call about it. So I got fed up and just traded it in, the dealer actually gave me pretty close to what my bottom line was for selling the truck. Good thing is I didn't have to deal with 2 payments and the hassle of selling the truck.

When I ordered my MINI they told me it would be 8 weeks before it got state side, so I
figured I had two months to sell my awesome limited edition Jeep Tomb Raider.

Well as you can probably guess from the picture above, I didn't sell my Jeep soon enough.
Not to mention that the MINI arrived in 4 weeks not 8 like they said it would.
I don't know about you but I couldn't afford the payment for two cars and this put a load of stress on me.
BMW finance gave me 45 days before my first payment was due so it was time to get to work on selling my former pride and joy.
I put my Jeep in the Autotrader, Craigslist, local newspaper and even offered a finders fee for anyone that could sell it for me.
None of those methods worked even after reducing the original asking price by 6,000 (willing to take a small loss).
So I finally put it on Ebay and it sold to someone in Minnisota...
This is what I should have done it from the begining, since I have sold 2 other cars this way and got more than Carmax will ever offer you.
Don't worry about who buys your car or where they live.. You can always make the shipping their issue to contend with by noting that on your Ebay listing.
Ebay is where I now do most of my shopping for MINI parts and it is also where I will buy my daughters MINI from.

Thanks everyone for the input. I have the car on ls1tech (huge Fbody site) on craigslist, now paid for it to be on auto trader. I'm leery of eBay because my lack of experience with it.how much does it cost to list something on eBay? I'm obviously trying to get the most for the trans am so I have more to put down on the mini. Being patient sucks.
Blue book on my car is rougly 11k. Its worth lowset to me at 14-13,5k. I have it listed for 15 and 14 on the Fbody forum. I JUST replaced the cluth master and slave. There isn't a Carmax near me...I don't think they would give me anywhere near what I want
since you would only have it on Ebay for about a week or so.
If I were you, I would go to Ebay and see what others are asking for their cars and see what some others have sold for.
If things don't work out and you need help with Ebay send me a PM and we'll work through it.
The other thing that would help is telling us about your car, maybe someone here is looking for one or knows someone that is.
Have you checked to see what other cars (same model and year as yours) are selling for? Maybe you are asking for too much. Blue book prices are not always correct. Blue book said my old car was worth $6000, but every where I look, people are selling theirs at $4k to $5k with less mileage than mine.

I sold my Jeep Wrangler above KBB. Pretty sweet. I did it on AutoTrader.com Craigslist generated alot of virtual tire kickers. My Jeep sold in 2 days. Two people came out to look at it. One bought it.
If your car is in the 10s/20s k, there's not a lot of people out there with that kind of cash so your best best if you need to unload quickly, trade it in or sell it via a carmax type of business. The economy is bad, if you hadn't noticed.

From what I've seen, KBB private party is typically a little high. Most people get between trade-in and private party values.
Also keep in mind, your care probably isn't as pristine as you think it is. Most people seem to rate their cars the same as they report weight and fitness on dating sites... shall we say VERY OPTIMISTIC!

I had good luck selling my 7 year-old Nissan Altima on Craigslist. It's free, so why not try?
I got a handful of sheister offers (I'm so poor, can I take the car now and make payments... can I write you a check and drive off with the car today?), but I had 2-3 truely interested people who contacted me in 4-5 days and the first guy to see it and drive it made me an offer.
My local MINI dealership was nice enough to broker the deal for me. I 'traded it in' to my dealership and they immediately turned around and flipped it to the buyer for the price that we had negotiated. This way I got the sales tax credit for the price of the trade and he got the additional comfort of knowing for sure that the sale was above-board. I think that the dealership charged a $75 'Doc. fee' for handling the paperwork.

I wasn't expecting such a large response!pilot thanks for the offer I might take you up on that!
I hear you guys. I guess I was being greedy. The car does mean that much to me. Its paid off so whatever I do get goes to the mini. I might be asking too much especially with the way gas prices are and people tightening up on buying toys.
Thanks for all the help everyone.
Ill post the link to the autotrader ad. I'm posting from my phone so I hope it works sorry for it being so long
Jack- I'm accepting offers

We were in the same predicament. My Husband's '99 Chevy S-10 Blazer Book'd for $5700 w/134,700+ Miles on it. We started at that price, ended up selling it for $2600. Dealer appraised it for $2200 so we were $400 ahead and happy it's GONE!!! Molly is coming HOME on Saturday!!!
I'm still amazed you can do this from phones these days. That is so sci-fi.
If you are having such problems selling it, why not just trade it in at the Mini dealer? You can dicker a bit on what they offer you, walk away if it is really out of your need-to-get range, and other than that it is no-hassle. I think we got $2000 less for our Jetta (which had been in an accident, unfortunately) at the dealer than what we could have sold for private party, and none of the nonsense that comes with trying to sell a car privately and the assorted weirdos that come with it. Time wasted trying to sell a car= 0. Time into new MINI = very fast. Totally worth in in our case.
