Question for Insurance Guru's or Gurus in General

Yesterday when I was driving on the Mass. Pike Interstate. I was behind a truck. All of a sudden, it sounded like someone shot at my windshield. I instantly saw a chip on my windshield. Of course I yelled some words that shouldn't be said. I thought it was a huge pebble because this was a really loud one. Usually I hear dinks on the bumper but this one was like "CRACK". However my girl friend said she thinks she saw a lug nut or a screw falling from the back of the truck. So she took down the company name and the license plate number. However my friend tells me that if I file it for debris on the road, the state of MA. would cover it. Which way should I go with this? Through the truck or the state?

As a former construction worker, over 20 years, I can tell you you will have a very hard time with this one. 99% of the time the owner/operators of the trucks win out due to the fact that you cannot prove it wasn't a rock or debris on the roads surface that the tread picked up...

Best of luck, however.

Back in the day when I lived in the northeast my insurance would pay for all windshield replacements/repairs. It wasn't until I moved to CO (nicknamed the rocky mountains for the amount of rock they put on the roads in the winter) where the insurance wouldn't cover squat. Check your insurance, it may be that your covered.
