This may be true, but it wouldn't hurt to mention that the gaps are different than they were pre-accident. And, of course, as in all fields, there are plenty of people who do NOT do their jobs.

But come on, structural damage ? Like I said, if it's something that CAN be spotted without tearing the vehicle apart, the estimator will find it. If it's not, then you're not going to know either, so how could you point it out ?
You obviously have very little faith in people.

Well, further damage is often discovered when they start to tear down the car. The jolt to the undercarriage must have been massive.... You have airbags deployed, busted tires yanked out of their rims. Not surprising if that MINI sustained engine and transmission damage. Sorry I am highly "Skiptical" of the insurance industry as a whole.

You'd be surprised how serious accidents look on one hand but structurally they aren't that significant - i.e., my recent accident was almost all sheetmetal damage - the alignment wasn't even that tweaked. It all depends on how and what you hit and how fast. When all was said and done my damage to my 07 R56 was $5,500 in parts approximately and the rest in labour.
Popped airbags do add a significant cost to the repair of a vehicle...

Not the case at all. However, if you know something is different, it behooves you to point it out. When I call an electrician to my home because I have a flickering outlet, I don't play "let's see if he can find the problem"; I show him the problem. Sure, I trust he will check out things I don't know about and inform me if he finds something else. If someone gets insulted because I point out a problem I know about, however, I think it reasonable to assume the person is insecure. And that gives me reason for concern.

Apples and oranges debate, Lynn.
But hey, I don't want to hijack the thread just to debate you on what an estimator's job is and how well they may or may not do it.
All I know is, if I'm ever involved in an accident, I surely wouldn't tell my estimator, "don't forget to check for structural damage".
