To big brake kit or not?

I recently read in March mc2 that they thought a proper brake pad upgrade was just as good as a big brake kit. No need to spend big $$$$$.They recommended Carbotech brake pads. Anyone have any experience with these pads? Cost? Where to buy? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx!

Depends on the application. For street and light track use I would agree. But if you are going to do any serious track time new pads can not match the performance and fade resistance of a BBK. Other benefits of a BBK are that they are lighter, and the pads are much easier to change, which means you can go with a very aggressive pad for the track only which improves performance even more. But you pay for it.

What if I want to race eventually? Are you allowed to use BBK's in SCCA or NASA classes? I really want to autocross, do I have to move up to a modified class if I use a BBK? What about the Carbotech pads? I found out that two national championships were won running these pads on a mini. Are they the best?

If you want to autocross, stick to stock brakes. BBKs put you in either STU or SM, both highly modified classes with lots of competition. Stock brakes are just fine for autocross. BBKs are only really useful on long high speed track sessions.

thanks

Thanks for the info., definately don't want to go into heavily modified. Have you tried the Carbotechs autocross compound? I've heard rave reviews, going to try it. I have had their street compound for 3.5 years, it is incredible. I'm hoping their autox is just as good.

I haven't tried Carbotech pads myself because I do have a BBK (which puts me in SM along with the pulley). But I know Carbotech makes quality products.

I got my BBK because I prefer track days. I just autocross for fun.
