HK system acting up

Had my car for three years now and loves the car and the sound system. However, my HK system started to show some problems when I moved down to Florida. The first stage was crackling and hissing noises in the rear subs, so I had to turn the rear off. About 3 weeks later the whole system died on me. No sound. The headunit still turns on and the display works normally. So... I wonder if anyone had or know this problem. Oh, Merry Christmas!!!!!

HK system acting up

Eurazn:

Had the same symptoms recently on my 03/03MCS/JCW. It was the amplifier. MINI sells the unit for $750.00. Decided to go with Alpine head unit and amplifier for approx. $1000.00. Making the decision a bit easier was the fact that I had no way of testing the amplifier to prove it was the culprit so it would have been a gamble to install a new HK amplifier and then find that the problem still existed. If you are in south FL (West Palm Beach) Audio Advisors has excellent equipment and service.

Best regards,
Joe

This is a common problem with the HK amps made for the 02 & 03 MINIs.. I have not heard of the problem with 04 models and on. Sorry to say that no one has a repair for this problem. And yes, out of warranty costs for a new HK amp is in the $700-$800 range.. Some have managed to get it replaced out of waranty since it is a very common problem... but that depends on the dealership...

Other options are finding other MINIs that have upgraded their sound system. and buying their old amp. But those are getting hard to find.. Sorry, not great answers, but I thought I would let you know you are not alone..

Besides the best music is listening to the MINI engine and exhaust
- ok tunes are nice too..

Good luck,
