Yup, your friend is exactly right. I seen it everyday here in LA too. It doesn't matter if you have no where to go, they want you to change lane, and then the car in front of you.. and the car in front.. etc... I hate those people. What I usually do is to leave even more room in front of me so in case there is a sudden stop, I have more room to do a slower stop and hope that he won't hit me. Also I will be forcing him to pass me but usually it doesn't happen even if he changes lane. The lanes to the right are not moving any faster. What I end up seeing is that he will change lane to the right.. and change back.. to the right.. and change back... it gives him something to do instead of tailgating me!

Rita, I'm glad no one was hurt and your MINI was only "ouched", but you never know when the idiot who bumped you will be carrying.........there's no reason to lose life, limb or property over a car.........

I know this is gonna sound like heresy, but please, let's keep some perspective..........
Dave, in LA heavy traffic, there is no such thing as a passing lane or "fast" lane. It's a solid creeping mass from side to side. Imagine molassas in the winter.

This is why you have to carry a throw away. After shooting the moron simply place your throw away (following a careful wipe down) into his hand...

Yes, and then after that we can move on to the mentally disabled. Oh and what the heck the Jews can go third.

Tongue in cheek yes but still a very dangerous game to play when talking about "eliminating" certain types of people from the "gene pool".

Mental reminder...

Never comment on this board about "eliminating" someone.
Or even something similiar. Race and Religion almost always will be
brought in to it <g>.

Take the more passive approach. Just sit back assured in the belief that
Darwin was right... mother nature will ultimately do the eliminating for us <G>.

Oh, and I'd suggest using the rear foglights as an extra idiot dislodging tool.....

So this thread get dredged up from 8+ months ago only so someone can comment on how best to whack an individual and get away with it? What the heck were you searching for and decided "hmmm...I should make a not so funny comment and drive this to the top..."
I may just take your advice...

I don't know why this thread was brought up again but this kind of thing sadly happens everywhere. I live in West Virginia....where, generally, people are really nice and friendly. However, a few weeks ago, I was driving on the interstate one evening during the week. There wasn't even too much traffic. A car was weaving badly, on and off the road, in and out of both lanes...not in a trying to get a better position in traffic way but in a "I'm too drunk to keep my car on the road" kind of way. Anyway, while that car was off the road (in one of its swerves), I got into the passing lane and hurried around it (hoping to keep both me and my Mini out of danger). I ended up going more than the speed limit so I let my foot off the gas to slowly get myself back down to the appropriate speed. While slowing from that speed, I stayed in the passing lane and went around a very large pick up truck....my Mini only came to its step to get into the door (it had steps), HUGE tires (four in the back, two on the front)......

Apparently, Mr. Big Truck did not like getting passed by my little Mini. For the next several miles, he stayed within a couple of feet of the back of my car. I was terrified he was going to rear end me at highway speeds. I tried speeding up but he would keep up...I tried tapping my breaks but he just got even slower. He backed off twice....only to come speeding up even closer behind me. I ended up getting off at an exit a few before the exit I needed just to get away from this guy.

Stupid bullies!

One of the smartest things you can do.
I don't like to get pushed around so I don't follow this advice well but just getting away from this kind of driver is very smart.

Well tailgaiters can be dealt with just by adding the 007 Squirt gun mod with the rear windshield wiper delete. Or just slow down 5 below the speed limit. (this is what i do when i am just coasting and someone feels ballsy to try and push me to go faster) Best thing ever cause he will just move over and get out of your way.

We had something similar on the I-15 in Utah. Apparently some big rigs (including a US Postal truck) do not like being passed by a couple of MINIs. They kept tailgating & passing us and then slowing down again, while we were maintaining right around the speed limit.

Must be compensating for something...

I had a older model Honda Civic tailgate me on a 2 lane road with double yellow/no passing road markers. I was going about 55 on a 45. I had my turn coming up in about 4 miles so I just kept going. After about 2 minutes of this he decided his time was too important to waste sitting behind me driving at around th speed limit so he crossed the double yellow, accelerated and passed me going about 60 - 70mph and he continued to stay on the gas.

Then I saw the most awesome sight. As he got about 150 meters ahead of me a Highway patrol officer turns on his lights and pulls him over.. I was going to pull over to make sure the officer knew he passed on the double yellow, but I decided against it. But I did wave to the civic when he looked my way as I passed him by. That made my day. If he didn't pass me to get clocked doing probably 75 in a 45, I would've probably gotten the ticket for going 55.

It must suck to be him. But things could've been worse.. I the guy getting the ticket could've been me..

Hi - Glad you weren't hurt! My husband was hit on Friday. We had just purchased my new mini and were driving home from the dealership. He was driving my 1999 mini-VAN and I was about 15 minutes behind him in the Mini Cooper S.

Traffic was slowed to a crawl and this guy was talking on his cell phone and not paying attention. He hit my husband pretty hard. Minor damage to the jerk's truck but major damage to the van.

My cousin's husband caused an accident years ago when he was talking on his cell phone and a woman was killed. You would think people would learn to be more responsible.

KC

Want to drive the really offensive tailgater totally BANANAS, CRAZY, SCHIZOID?

Maintain your lane and then SLOW DOWN! Even 3 to 4mph will do. They can't stand it for more than a few seconds at most and then they will absolutely crash anyone on both sides of them just to get around you trying to show YOU their TAILLIGHTS.

It's really quite FUN watching them go crazy. TRY IT!

I do this all the time on my motorcycle. I agree it's one of the most effective ways to ruin a darwin-candidate's day.

I refuse to risk my welfare for some idiot. Let them take the risks and endanger themselves. I am more than happy to watch the "organ-donor-in-training" put his (or her) life on the line for the sake of saving a few seconds. I however, would prefer to arrive alive and hug my kids again.
