Thanks for posting those stats. I've been curious... I can't believe the Mini gets stolen more than a Cadillac Funeral Coach.

Interesting, there were 0 mercury marauders stolen in 2004, but in 2005 they jumped to 3rd on the list

Good information considering that when we ordered our Mini last Friday (6/29/07) there was no alarm system offered.

I guess I'll be getting the LoJack system after the Mini arrives.

Anyone else use anything cheaper, but dependable?

Our salesman told us that unless you keep valuables in the Mini it's not really an issue to have an alarm system with the BMW brand.

We use the Trunk Monkey as a security system on the GT500.

I guess I'll have to consider one for the Mini.

LoJack units are only available in certain geographic sections of the US. When I lived in CA they had them down there, but they are not available here in Oregon. After we moved up and traded in one of our vehicles we asked about a LoJack and the dealership didn't know what we were talking about.

And on a side note, the alarm system was available when you ordered. It just didn't show up on Miniusa. The audio package wasn't showing up as being availabe then either but both became available for during the production week in the second week of June.

I ordered the alarm system for mine. My Mini is already built on its way towards the Panama Canal.

Thanks for the info on the alarm. I just called my salesman and he's going to do some checking for me. I'm not sure I want to play with my car order at this point. I'm afraid it would hold it up. It's not in production yet, so maybe not. My husband thought the alarm price was only $295.00. Good price in my book just to scare off some fool after pocket change or something stupid.

The LoJack systems are in our area. We already have it on another car.

Thanks again for the info.

If LoJack is available use it. They are the only ones that deal directly with the police.

The alarm was $400, including factory installation. It may be slightly more if the dealer installs it.

Good luck with deciding what to do...order or not order Lojack. I actually worry about my MINI being stolen from a lot everytime I park. (She's so tiny and defenseless!!!)
