The wave
The wave
Since ive joined, I have learned a lot about the mcs and the mini community. One thing that I havent run across yet is the wave. You know, when one driver passes another or they are at a stop light together and they give each other a wave (saying hey to a fellow MINI owner). Is that something that is known to happen here? With my subaru we do that pretty much all the time and it is a given thing, well with the imprezas that is (i.e. rs, wrx, sti, and maybe a legacy gt, given the driver). Anyways, it is something im just curious about. Thanks.

You bet we wave, well most of us do.

Here's a recent thread on it.

Hahah To be honest we do. Actually, I just got my Mini about 3 days ago and on my way home from the dealer this other green MC rolls by and says hello. I was shock so I wave back. Then in his license plate it says Yoda! So you could see all the Star Wars sticker in his car. As "yoda" sped off it seem like he remember something and came back close to my car but this time he turn on his neon green lights at the bottom of the car. I thought that is amazingly cool! As I was turning to go home "yoda" sped off and flicked his green lights on and off, saying Good bye.
So Yes, the Mini community they all do say Hi. It's amazing!
And If "yoda" read this forum around CA. You are the MAN!

Some flash instead, but don't expect that of an R56 with Xenons. Sadly, I've found that I can't flash--they're bi xenons and it would take time to turn the lights on, not to mention the terrific wear and tear on the system. Oh well...
The only problem with waving is that sometimes windshield reflections prevent you from seeing the other driver's wave.

The wave is dieing...but we are doing are best to keep it alive! Too many people are buying MINIs now because they are a good on gas, nice little city commuter car. They don't care about the history or the community behind the car.

I kinda think that, too.
I still wave, but I don't get a whole lot of waves back. Occasionally I still get big smiles and enthusiastic waves, and I love it because I know they're true Miniacs who are as into the car as I am.

I read it as "I <hand> back."
I wave whenever I spot a MINI, provided we make eye contact first. (I'd wave if I saw a Mini but there are none around here.) Or, I'll wave in such a fashion that the other driver HAS to make eye contact at me.

I don't have my MINI yet, but I promise to wave when I'm driving it!
However, I've already had my first "mini owner" encounter. We saw one at a stoplight (while on vacation) in Georgetown. I was pointing things out to my sister, telling her what was the same or different about my Cooper, and the driver rolled down the window and we started talking MINIs!
Cheers to that blue MCS driver!!

I still wave after 4+ years of MINI ownership. In fact, I entered the grill badge contest with a wave design

I too promise to wave, if/when I get a MC/MCS.
Question--am I allowed to wave at other MINIs from my current car (Saturn, which apparently USED to have their own wave custom when they first came out)?
