3" is your cut line (at least for mine) --for printing you need an 1/8" bleed beyond that. Text or objects should stay within a (2 7/8") circle. Sorry, too early for decimal conversion and Illustrator is not open at the moment.

Todd's are 2.92" , the MINI OEM holder is 3.0" The Outmotoring is 2.85" plus a few hairs (.05) for powder coating which makes my badges sit very nicely on there, without having to use your fingernail to grab the badge off and not hanging off the edge either. I don't know what size the Craven holder is.

I'm not stressing these tolerances for the contest or we'd scare folks away. That can be worked out later.

Probably more than you wanted to know.

That is incorrect. Our badges are exactly 2.92" diameter. (There was a short period early when we produced 2.85" dia. badges but never smaller than that.) The MINI OEM badge holder is, in fact, 3" in diameter. We tested badges for more than two months before offering them for sale in March of 2006. In that time, we lost two 3" badges. This was determined to be due to aerodynamic lift when an unsupported edge is present i.e. if the badge is not perfectly centered on the badge holder a very small edge of the magnetic badge can "catch air" and easily fly off. By making our badges .08" smaller than the holder your chances of losing a badge are virtually eliminated. I am not saying that you will definitely lose a 3" diameter badge but our tests showed a distinct proof of concept and we haven't lost a single 2.92" diameter badge in 13 months on our test vehicles.

Sorry, Todd-- I got that measurement from one of your other posts, somewhere and from Aaron , I think at out motoring, somewhere. I stand corrected and apologize for the error. I've tested mine as well for about 1000 miles in various condtions and have lost none. Should anyone lose a 3" badge because they didn't center it perfectly on the holder they should get a new one.

I'm having folks design for 3" for simplicity in design sake, not necessarily for production. This whole contest is meant for fun , anyway.

edit: I don't know where I got that 2.75 number, either way if it's incorrect, it's incorrect. Sorry again.

A note on entries , as they seem to pop up and disappear. If you intend to enter a design please follow the rules. You can't throw one up , take it down and then throw a different one up later except as specified in the rules.

If you are removing an image, please delete the entire post.

If you are adding a badge, please name it so we can refer to it.

When the entries are all in , another thread will be started purely for voting purposes that will contain just images and screenames of badges.

Any questions? I'm around, just trying to get it right.

Aerodynamics or not, I like the slightly smaller MotoringBadge.com badge. It has a more custom fitted feel. Plus, contrary to what folks might think, the slightly smaller diameter is hardly noticeable.

Removal is easy by giving it a slight nudge with your thumb until it hangs over the edge. Then, just lift off.

Just a request that we stay on topic for this contest thread. There's another thread I started a few days ago where continuation of this discussion may fit better.

And rightly so...I brought it up, I just don't want to turn it into a Plasma Booster thread and have to get the Professor in here, but up wind tunnel tests, etc.

I'll repost this reply over at the other thread for other replies, so we can go on with the contest thread.

Sure,
I'll comment but not in this thread.
Start a new one and I'll be right over.

Okay, todd1234,

Here's your forum and your reply from me. Would you please delete your post and continue in the forum where your question is on topic?

Flame me over there. Not here. This is for the Grille Badge Design Contest.

Buddha,

Please see rules in post #1 regarding trademarks. Thanks. I'm sure you can find a creative way of getting your intent accross.

Here's my idea, with visual confirmation coming with help from DVLMINI (big time public thanks!):
- an overhead drawing of a curvy two lane road, with a MINI at the bottom in the right lane
- there's another car in the right lane, just ahead of the MINI, and then a car in the left lane, about a car's length (or MINI length ) ahead of the other car in the right lane
- an arrow traces the path the MINI will take - around both cars and back into the right lane
- in curved text at the top of the badge, "TRAFFIC", and curved text at the bottom, "CARVER"

Nice! Thank you for your entry...we're getting close to the end of this contest, so get your entries and/or questions in.

I have a feeling this is going to be a monthly thing, so keep those mice and pencils sharp!

Well, given my recent comments on the lack of a tribute badge, I thought I would toss one into the mix.

Clean and simple, just like I like them:

Here is mine. The light gray part of the S is chrome, dark grey part is silver.
Edit: size fixed.
2nd edit: uploaded per DVLMINI instructions.
3rd edit: this is 3-color entry

This is 4-color or more entry

Last edited by davavd; Jun 28, 2007 at 02:45 PM. Reason: tweaked the 4-color entry a bit
