Was I hallucinating? Mercedes MINI connection

I thought I heard a radio ad on WTOP radio in Washington, D.C. like
"Test Drive a MINI Cooper Convertible today at your local Mercedes Benz Dealer". Was that an announcer mistake? Is there a Mercedes/BMW connection?

BMW prides itself that no one owns it. BMW owns MINI.

I'm surprised you heard a MINI ad. I've never seen or heard one!

I drove Mercedes for over 20 years. I can tell you straight out...it was a mistake.

Mercedes has nothing to do with MINI. In fact, when I told Larry, my dealer at Mercedes that I had bought a MINI, he walked away from me in a little huff.

The only connection was the Tritec engine, designed by DaimlerChrysler (Daimler-Benz purchased Chrysler in 1998). As of two weeks ago, Daimler no longer owns Chrysler.

The engines in Gen1 MINIs were developed with a partnership between BMW and Daimler-Chrysler. The Gen2 engines were developed with a partnership with Peugeot...
