Got waved today
Anybody in or near SE PA knows that today is a gorgeous day. 70 degrees, sunny, slight breeze, no clouds. I was going down a local highway, 313 if anybody knows, and saw an orange Cooper convertible cruising towards me with the top down. Before I could even react, the blonde driving had her hands out of the top waving at me like a sail. That alone made my day. Thank you, unknown blonde lady.
Fabulous.
Yesterday I was driving in urban traffic. I had to wait four lights to make a left turn and was hurrying to an appointment minutes away.
I make it through the light and am trying to get into the right lane to turn right in 2 blocks but the small red station wagon on my right is lagging leaving a gap from the car in front but still running close to my rear wheel so I can't change lanes. We go along like this for a block or two.
Then as I look to make the right lane change I see next to me in the red car is an almost 80 year old white haired granny driving alone, who has lowered her window and asks me-
"Is that a new car?" I nod (taken back) and smile.
then she says-
"cute car" and smiles.
I already had my windows down from waiting in the long left turn light but normally I have windows up. I bet she was going slow for those blocks next to me spying my mid modded 2003 MCS (4.5 years old and not really new although it might look newish).
Kids will often wave from the back see of cars next to me. I usually wave back.

What kinda sucked was yesterday there was a cute blonde girl driving a Mini right next to me in slow, often stopped, traffic. She was paying attention to the traffic, not to me next to her. I was right there if she would have only looked over to her right. I wanted to beep but not look like a tool. Oh well.
I get a wave back once out of about every four-five attempts...that's all that keeps me going because it is really cool when it works!!!

i live in the same area, i actually live on 313 i know the girl you're talking about, im sure ive waved to you, I ALWAYS WAVE.. ive got a 2002 dark grey S, should have springs and rims on by the end of the week
I got my first wave today, travelling home in San Marcos, CA. A BRG/B R53 with black bonnet stripes and a checkered license plate frame was approaching from behind and waved to me as she passed. Two young women having fun motoring around socal on a nice day. Good vibes all around.
Yeah I always wave also. Usually only when my daughters or wife are in the Mini I don't get a wave back. Sometimes they look at me like I'm nuts for waving but I'm trying to set a good example. My daughter is learning to drive the Mini now on her permit
. Besides teaching her how to drive I need to teach her how to be a good motorer
. By the way hello thebillsman i know I have seen your MCS. It's a sweet ride.

42 MINIs caravaning thru the twisties up in Escondido/Fallbrook. Was a great time with beautiful weather. Brecht even had carne asada, (virgin) Margaritas, Mexican music/dancers, and a local radio station broadcasting live from the dealership and interviewing MINI enthusiasts.
I got my first wave last weekend in my neighborhood from a DS/W MCS. It made my day as well. I usually will try to wave if I can notice other MINI's in the day to day traffic, but so far everyone else is paying attention to the drive, just like me.
I wish I could have celebrated Cinco de MINI but it was our wedding anniversary and we celebrated in a different way.

OK all you wavers! Keep wavin' at each other for the next couple of weeks as a warm-up for British Car Week (www.britishcarweek.org) which this year is from May 26 through June 3. There should be more LBCs driving around than usual, and even if you don't normally wave at other british car owners, during BCW it's not only allowed, but is almost mandatory!
Anyway, during the week, drive your MINI as much as possible. Don't stay home watching TV, go out for a brisk "motor" - go for ice cream - drop by your friends house - try that road you always wondered where it goes - but whatever you do, w-a-v-e at your fellow british car owners!

Is there a MINI romance headed your way???
