2007 Formula 1 Discussion Thread
Well, that's kind of my point. LH might conceivably be enticed to another team, leaving Fred a bit happier at McLaren.
We're up to our neck in silly season.

Massa a crybaby?!? What the heck are you talking about? Certainly not the Nurburging, I hope.
If there's a crybaby out there my money says Fred's got a fresh pair of diapers ready for each race. I would've given that distinction to Montoya but he took his hankies and split for neckcar.
Aside from that, Massa has clearly demonstrated that when he's on he is spot on . . . but IMHO he will remain a 2nd tier pilot because he is not that way consistently. His lows are fairly low.
I'm a long way from writing Kimi off. Yes, this season has proven to be somewhat a mystery . . . and a huge disappointment. I would've imagined that he'd won 7 Grands Prix by now.
With that said, I think it is far from certain that Alonso would achieve different results. I say this not to discredit Alonso, but because there is plenty of fact to back this up:
Given that both Alonso and Kimi prefer very similar under-steering cars . . . and given that Alonso inherited a car thats pedigree was developed for Kimi, I think it is fair to say that Alonso might have the same problems Kimi has had adapting to the longer wheelbase Ferrari.
Whether he would've overcome them quicker than Kimi is another question, but you must take into account that Alonso is only now apparently coming to grips with the McLaren. He certainly has not handed Hami his rookie credentials every weekend.

Its clearly evident that he is not happy at McLaren. He's so displeased with being treated equally that he's even accused the team of giving Hami preferential treatment.
Unlike Kimi, Fred seems incapable of keeping cool head at times. I wouldn't put anything past him in his intent upon being number one . . . whatever the cost.
This is, of course, often the trait the separates winners from losers, and part of the reason Alonso is a character that I can love and despise at the same time.
I salute him for showing up in Turkey with facial hair and think that he is a great champion, while I see no excuse for his on track antics such as brake testing other drivers in practice.
One thing Fred isn't, is a political manipulator like Prost. It is precisely BECAUSE he gets so emotional, I don't see him pulling off something that requires some cool calculation. Seems he's only able to tap into that on track.
According to autosport, Mclaren have be excluded from the 2007 and 2008 championships......
At least that is what my brother just texted to me, I cannot get onto the site as it is timing out......

Autosport may have jumped the gun - they have done this numerous times in the past.
I hope that it is untrue.
However, I would love to see the fight-back that McLaren will wage if it is true.
Given that Fred did not 'stand by the team' in Paris today, combined with the general reporting of his misery, I fully expect an announcement if this is the ruling that it is enough to be considered a breach of contract and to find that he has signed for Ferrari or Renault by the end of the weekend.

From Uk 5-Live radio......
No constructors points in 2007
Drivers keep their points
£100m fine
no action on 2008 or beyond.......
From the BBC
McLaren have been stripped of their points in the 2007 Formula One constructors championship after the outcome of the 'spygate' row.
The team was also fined $100m (£49.2m) and will have to subject its 2008 cars to examination before racing, but the drivers retain their points this year.
