I've never understood the morons standing so close to a Group B course. They didn't call it the Killer B's for nothing.

After her win in Portugal. Michelle Mouton was asked how she could drive so fast with all the people being inches from the road. Her reply was you have to think of them as trees not people.

Spectator deaths helped kill Group B, but it was Henri Toivonen & Sergio Cresta's death in Corsica that put the final nail in the Group B coffin. He was destined to be a real star. What a loss.

Totally agree with you Chuck. Henri Toivonen & Sergio were real stars. Henri was more at home in the older RWD Lancia 034 and Porsche 911SCRS than the Delta but, still a great driver.

I guess I'm still obsessed with ur-quattros, here's another MUST watch recent movie of a Gruppe B Audi sport quattro S1. At least Stig is alone and not endangering any spectators.

Audi sport quattro S1 with Stig Bloomquist testing[/URL] This sport quattro S1 sound is AWESOME.

This is from the French Audi forum gurus this last spring on the Col du Turini, Audi Sport crew fired up a sport quattro S1 and handed the reins to Stig Bloomquist. Blown back in time, I'm sure Stig was feeling good about the whole test session. He sure is a great guy when I met him back in 2000 at the shop. I was laying down rallye car vinyl and he was hangin' out laying down some Vermont beers. At the time, he drove Carl Merrill's Cosworth as a tribute.

Thompson, thanks for posting the video. What a hairy chested beast that car is. And Stig, he's still got it.

Stig is definately in the "Old Fart Motoring Club". Hmmm, I going to watch that video again. Sooo kewl. There is just a magic about how the Audi 5cyl 20v (and 10v) turbos sound un-muffled.

Here is another Thompson holiday treat movie for yaa!

Audi sport quattro all wound up

I STILL get watery eyes watching this little movie after all these years, just amazing. Hans Dahlback's sport quattro rocks. After having a ride on BIR raceway is Steve Beddor's sport quattro at over 155+mph these cars are still all that.

You are thinking of two different Stig's. One is the mystery man who wrings out cars on top gear. The other is Rally Ace Stig Blomquist. To different people entirely. Rally Stig is one of my hero's.

and that will fix the link there as well. Enjoy!

Yes, Stig Blomquist is very different than the Stig from Top Gear in the UK.

Thompson, thanks for the pictures of Stig. That shot of him jumping is in Portugal, not at 1000 lakes as listed. You can see the bullfighter syndrome at full tilt. It gives me goose bumps looking at that photo. That road is filled with people. Yikes!!!
