Ice Auto Cross

WOW! The local SCC hosted an awesome ICE Auto Cross day today!

"Rex" was the only MINI and it was also his (as well as mine!) track debut! He/we did great. The results are not yet posted but I think we finished 2nd in the 2WD cars and definitely top 10 all around. That included one Subaru Forrester with some mild studs and half a dozen STi's. All in all there were about 25 cars and maybe a few more drivers then that (mostly AWD). It's held just outside our city on a frozen lakebead (crazy slippery!) and no- you DO NOT want to hit those banks...they were solid! I think there's an STi part-swap after the event LOTS of AWD Subs taking out banks! I'm driving in the first pic and my hubby in the second.

AWESOME! I hopefully I'll be getting my Cooper S loaded in the port of Southampton tomorrow, then should be picking it up Mar. 3-8th. It has been pretty cold up here in Vermont for the last few weeks and I'm sure all the lakes are getting thicker and ready for us soon!

Here is a video of my friends older 300+hp Audi quattro on full hoot over Lake Champlain >>

also tsrennsport.com BMW and MINI Challenge Germany videos on youtube

Typical Audi guru fashion, he had rallye spec gravel tires with super studs. Talk about hooking up on the ice! TTOD.

I can't wait to get my new Cooper s out there. How was the ABS, the DSC, and traction control? Did your limited slip totally hook up? Nice rims, good tires (look like Blizzaks LM-25s) and keep at it! I'm going to plan on some 215/45-17 Nokian WRs mounted on my S-Lites.

Excuse me, I was just testing my new toy... Flickr!
This is a Mitusubishi Evo 3 (not USA legal) at a Laughlin rally several years ago. I had to drive thru this stuff too.
JWCGurl: What a blast! Wish I was there...

I was JCWgurl's co-driver and the ABS and DSC were incredible but I think we would have been quicker without traction control. I made a run with the DSC+T switched off and it wasn't my quickest run but it might have been if I had tried it on my first or second run because the track wasn't polished smooth yet. The LSD worked very well and I think we were taking off quicker than the other FWD cars, they always had one wheel spinning and we had both. The tires or Michelin X-Ice tires and we really like them, although the winning 2wd car had Blizzaks. I think we came in 2nd place in the 2wd class(results aren't posted yet) and lost because on ice you want a soft suspension without sway bars, the complete opposite as racing on pavement. The winning car had a super soft suspension and really leaned in the corners, Rex has Sport Suspension Plus so body lean was zero.
