Different strokes for different folks! you're right... it did allow us to watch the other teams. That's what I like about the 1hr sessions (as I mentioned above)...

i hate the 2 weekend per engine rule. in terms of what it costs to run in F1, i don't think it really saves any significant money. did anyone catch the discussion about how redbull used a $11 piece of carbon to restrict the v10 in leiu of the $1 billion EACH that the other teams used to design their v8s? do the guys in charge have any sense? sheeesh.

I missed that discussion. That's funny. I'm sure that the teams need some budget reform... I guess that BMW and Renault should start charging $200k + for their consumer cars and then they can waste money left and right like Ferrari.

I think that F1 is the leader of the pack, I think that it will take teams lots of money to lead the pack and innovate. I'm sure there can be some budget cutting here and there though.

reminds me of the good old days when the drivers had to deal with other cars being on the circuit . . .

It's funny how the sport has really changed in 4 years from the 2001 season. I think that season and 2002 were the best. I miss the Schumi VS Mika days... Ferrari VS Williams and McClaren days...

The "new" F1 is very exciting as well. We'll have to see how this race lines up. It should be interesting to say the least. I don't think that we'll have any first corner incidents with the Ferrari's on the front of the grid. I want to see Massa attack MS though...

I think I enjoyed qualifying this time around. Although it was tough to figure out who to watch, even for the camera crew at times.

What was really amazing with Kimis failure is that he drove that thing in on one wheel in the rear...must be all that chrome.

I'm up! So much for Massa. A little over anxious, I think. It looks like the Ferrari and the Renault are a little more evenly matched. Real racing for a change. I like it!

The Raikkonen charge, Jenson Button's 'stout' passing, and Alonzo waiting to pounce...excellent stuff indeed!

Good to see Ferrari back up to performance of 2004. Too bad Schumi is past his prime.

AWESOME drive for KIMI! I like the Chrome paints cheme of the McLarens.

I wanted better for Scott Speed(Racer) but Scudarea Toro Roso is not a front marker team.

Puke failed to impress again. He continually proves that Driving skills are not found in DNA!

I hope that Frank and the boys stay with Cosworth rather than switching to Toyota power next year.

Team BMW failed to impress. Sad because I love my MINI. Perhaps it is the Diamler Chrysler DNA in the engine?

It's gonna be a great season...this podium is the championship in three and everyone else will add some great spice...Nico Rosberg will be champion someday.

A race won...or lost, in the pits this time around. The V10 will be missed, if only for its song.

Random thoughts

Overall great start to 2006.

Toyota has to be perplexed as nothing seemed to go right. Considering their budget, they should have been far more competitive.

Kimi's race compared to Montoya's proved that a 1-stop strategy was potentially more effective.

Great kudos to Rosberg. He must be super pumped.

At least Bridgestone is back, and Ferrari too!

Button must be perplexed as well considering he truly thought Honda was the class of the field (prior to this weekend). Rubens didn't impress, as his pace fell off considerably.

Sepang has a track surface that has favored Bridgestone in the past. It'll be dusty at first, but should make for some good racing once cleaned up, and dry.

2005 didn't see one truly wet race (requiring full wets). Wonder how many we'll see in 2006? Hope to see a few as that's Bridgestone's strong point.

What a drive by Raikkonen. Another unbelievable performance.

That Toyota is a dog. Poor Trulli. He deserves so much more.

Excellent race with numerous wheel to wheel battles. Rosberg looks like a future champion. Impressive drive by Liuzzi.

Forza Ferrari!

Peter Windsor reported late in the telecast that Rubens lost 3rd gear somewhere in the first half of the race. Prior to that Rubens and Button had a pretty good fight in the early laps. Not the best way for a team to win, but it shows that it is too early to judge Rubens.

I liked the pre-race show with Windsor live in the pits quite a bit. It was certinaly more interesting than the pre-recorded interviews of his that they aired in the past.

Now that Speed has their own camera in the pits, I would like to request close-ups of the cars! We got a few glimpses of front and rear wings today, but I would like to see a lot more detail shots to get a better idea of just what the cars look like.

I think that it was a great race. thank goodness for TIVO! Nico Roseburg had a fantastic drive, what a performance for a rookie driver. What a all around race. Does anyone know where Alonso is going next year? I couldn't find anything about that. I've been out of the off season news. I love the on board shots this race. Lots of great racing. how about those BAR boys in the openning laps going at it. Oh, I cannot say enough about the great race! Can't wait until the next one!!! Some good racing today!

Alonso is going to McLaren next year, which is a good move as a driver, since Renault are very back-and-forth on their involvement in F1. I think he made the right move now, while he is highly marketable.

The race today was awesome! I liked the new quali for the greater action but do miss the pressure of single-car. Alonso drove an awesome race, as did Michael and Kimi, but for me the driver of the day was Nico. What a fantastic performance for a rookie! Williams will go far with him.

I also loved to see Williams, a small team with the Cosworth V8, beat the crap out of Toyota, who has the highest budget in F1. I do hope Toyota finds success, but it is so great to see Williams back on form.

Who's going to be the second driver at McLaren next year? I assume that Kimi would leave based on Bob Varsha's comments about the reliablity of the car. Did I read/hear somewhere that Kimi is looking for a drive at Ferrari? That'd be interesting to see Kimi and MS running next year. I guess it's time to start the MS retirement discuss too?

I can't see Kimi going to Renault... I also can't see Flavio giving up the main control over Alonso... Should be interesting to see how the next year or so goes in terms of driver changes!

Rumors have it this way. Schumi to retire. Kimi to Ferrari to fill in the black hole that appears when Schumi retires, Alonso to replace Kimi. JPM possible second to Alonso?
