Tire pressure help

Hope this is in the correct forum,
I have this strange wear on the middle outer tread. Its only on the front right (anti clockwise circuit). Anything I do tire pressure wise to reduce it?
Thanks in advance!

What warm pressures are you currently running?

Cheers,

Charlie

31psi hot, The tires are Nankang CR-S, first time I've had them on the car and can't find any info on pressures.

Based on my experience with my 2018 JCW and 2022 S and 2023 JCW think 31psi is way too low.

I'd start with inflating the tires to the tire pressure that is on the driver door jam sticker. Also, I recall at least with my JCWs MINI called for a higher tire pressure for use at speeds above 100mph. So if you are exceeding 100mph during your time on the track a bit more tire pressure might be called for.

Added: Just reread your post and 31psi *hot* is definitely too low a pressure.

I know this thread is a little old, but it deserves a little more discussion.

The door jam sticker for tire pressure on my 2019 JCW says 43 psi cold…. This is obscenely high. MINI is nuts.

For the track (I’m assuming track based on where this is posted), as was said, 31 psi hot is way too low and is likely the cause for that wear.. However, a lot more needs to be known about the car (what mods), tires (what size) and wheels (what size, offset) to give more than a general idea for tire pressures.

I track my JCW. It has been upgraded with the JCW Pro suspension, and 17x7.5 wheels. Otherwise it is stock. With 215-45x17 Falken RT660 and Bridgestone RE71Rs (older version), I run 38 psi, hot, all of the way around. This gives reasonable tire wear up front. If the hot pressures get higher than that, the tires become greasy.

If I had camberplates, I might lower that a little, given the experience of other MINI drivers I know who have more highly track prepped MINIs than mine.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the posts.

Here is a little more info:
Suspension is a little obscure, Sachs and Eibach performance upgrade kit

Sachs Eibach upgrade

Has fixed camber plates at the moment (adjustable plates are of no additional benefit due to diameter of springs)

Wheels are 15x7, ET+35
Tires 205 50 r15 Nankange CR-S
Only recommendations I have found on tire pressures are as from the lotus cup series, with suggest hot pressures of 29psi.. so I went a little higher. (https://www.lotuscupeurope.com/tyres-nankang-cr-s)
Toe is zero all around
Camber is -1.5 on the right (tire in question) and -2.1 on the left. I think this could be due to the subframe not being perfectly aligned.
Tires didn't show this wear with previous tires (Firestone Indy 500)

Last week I discovered powerflex camber increasing ball joints, along with the rear front wishbone bushes to correct caster... so will be ordering these at some point as I know I need more camber regardless.
No one else is running the CR-S and its only my first season so having to make a best guess.

I have 2 tire/wheel setups for my R56S for the track. One is like yours, 15x7 wheels and 205-50x15 tires. Currently have a set of Bridgestone RE71R tires on them. The car has had the IE fixed camber plates, which worked well for 13 years now. One thing that I found was that over time the front OEM shocks wore out and the shaft would flex between the shock body which caused the camber to increase on one side, much like what you are seeing on your car. So, maybe your car has the same issue? Not sure, but quite a coincidence…. Good this all being replaced.

I find the MINIs to be an enigma with respect to tire pressures. No other car’s settings seem to work well on it, and the MINIs are aways higher.

The Firestone 500 is a much harder compound tire, with less grip than the Nankanges. The higher grip of the Nankanges will deflect the tire more which likely caused the difference in tire wear.

Looking forward to hearing how you make out with the ball joints and caster bushings.

Also, what track are you going to and who is the event organizer?
