SMOKED by a Bug
Ok, so there I was - a red light, talking with my wife who was in the passenger seat, minding my own business when a New Beetle Turbo pulls up and is obviously anticipating the green. Thinking to myself, sure I can take him, I switch off the DSC. Revs build, turbo whistle and supercharger whine make their presence known, onlookers gape in amazement at the pure horsepower display, and then - GREEN!
The Cooper S took the light and a half car length lead, BUT I heard this sucking sound and realized it was the Bug pulling my paint off as he took the lead and continued to pull, albeit slowly, away to the next light.
Repeat at the next light.
Third light, windows came down and I found that the only modification was to the intake and I think wastegate.
He was by himself, and my wife is pretty lightweight, but I still was at a disadvantage because of the weight. I MUST FIND MORE HORSEPOWER!
This all took place on a closed circuit with professional drivers. Please do not attempt on public roads. Obey all traffic laws.

Don't worry about it. Win or loose, your not the one who has to go home everyday in a beetle. My dad bought a turbo briefly (rekindling his youth i guess) but after a few months the novelty wore off and he sold it. Yes the 1.8T engine is a great engine but if you have ever driving one in a bug there is sick amounts of torque steer, and not to mention the sensation of driving a bath tub on wheels. So next time, have some fun, and win or loose just smile politely and feel sorry for the poor bastard who has to drive that car everyday.
I do feel sorry for him, lacking the style and road holding abilities I know I have, but the next time I see one, the car WILL be faster! I WILL FIND HORSEPOWER - MOOOAAAA HAAA HAAA HAAA, MOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAA HAAAA HAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

>>Yea, one time I smoked, there was a lady bug in the room, and I swear she was flying all weird afterwards

The sevenspotted lady beetle (Coccinella septempunctata) was introduced into North America from Europe. Adults are large (about 3/8 inch), have red wing covers with seven black spots. Females lay clusters of 15 to 70 yellow eggs on plants that are infested with their aphid prey. Larvae grow and molt through four stages as they feed on aphid prey. The large fourth instar consumes more aphids than the previous three larval stages combined. Adult sevenspotted lady beetles overwinter in small groups in hedges, or in leaf litter on the ground near the base of plants.
Entomologists refer to them as lady beetles.

Well, just to ease your mind, the resale value of a VW is totaly dead in the water. You can't give them away. I go almost every week to Manheim AA and no dealers want to buy them. On the other hand you hardly find any Mini's at the auto auction, so currently the mini is a very hot item winning the race in another way.
Noit surprised. My moderately modified GTI is a LOT faster than my MCS is going to be. But the MCS will produce much faster lap times on the road track.
Never put a cigarette out on your eyeball.
I still like Bugs, call me crazy... the one I used to have treated me really well. A Turbo Beetle will smoke an S, yes... simple power issue, but an S will burst ahead on the twisties, Beetles understeer a lot when pushed hard.

I hate bugs especially when they splatter on my windshield on the hwy. They smell bad and, if left on your paint, will cause ugly spots.
Don't even sweat it. Bugs are a necessary nuissance to keep our ecosystem in check even if we don't particularly care for them.
Bugs..... ARGH !

>>However, Y'all didn't buy a MCS to be the fastest thing on the block did you? It's all about the style. At the end of the day the Neon still looks like a Neon and the mini, well, it just looks better!
A-MEN! My brother owns an all white Civic Si and is sad that he didn't purchase the Acura RSX-S. (he also secretly longs for my MC) But he brought up last Sunday that the "Super" Neon was coming out soon. I turned without any hesitation and said, "but it's still a Neon". Good Lord, that thing could outperform a Cart racer, and I would still not want it. Think about this too...how many people are going to race up beside you, give a thumbs up, and smile to someone driving a neon? LOLOLOLOL God, I crack myself up sometimes.

I dont understand what you mean by a sucking sound? Could be aftermarket bypass valve or the wastegate making wierd noises  A 1.8T is a very robust and strong engine. With Chip, intake, exhaust these cars are pulling low 14 seconds. With a GIAC X chip, a local Jetta 1.8T driver pulled a 13.9 on STREET tires. 1.8T's have a lot more torque, especially when chipped. Look for around 190hp and 240trq average if it has Intake, Exhaust, downpipe, chip. A lot more power then the MCS. Especially when the MCS is dynoing 163 crank and 138 wheel vs. the 180hp crank of the 1.8T.
Interals have been pushed upwards of 350hp

Road & Track comparison tested the PT Cruiser Turbo, Beetle Turbo and Cooper S.
1/4 mile times showed the Cooper S the slowest of the three, just slightly.
Don't be dismayed the Cooper isn't made for the dragstrip.
