Anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced (even if used) helmet for autocrossing? Also, what models are people using? Thanks

It all depends on your head. Different brands fit differently even in the same sizes. Do yourself a favor and go to a local shop to try them on. Solo Racer is a good place to order from / check pricing once you know what fits you. Where are you located?

I'll say it just to get it out of the way... Use search to find threads... ANYWAYS...

I picked up mine at soloracer.com Bought a G-Force GF650. It's M2000 rated, so its legal for Solo II/Autocross, and motorcycling. Not much else (club racing & other solo stuff require a SA rating.) I am quite happy with it, I'd love to have a closed face helmet, but at the time it wasn't in the budget. You can't really beat the $99 price. In white or black. The Tail of the Dragon stickers on it were a separate purchase

Yea, man, relax. I did do a search and didn't come across anything substantial.

"Beer, the cause of and solution to all of life's problems"

Anywho, for those of you interested in autoX, here's a rather inexpensive helmet that is M2000 rated. Getting it through a dealer (new, BTW) for $75.

I would also recommend checking out Soloracer.com. Brett is a sponsor of this forum, autocrosses himself, and can help you find a good price on a helmet that meets your needs.

Try these two links.

I am kind if wary of this one it seems too cheap but it says it meets Snell M00 which I believe is the latest Snell rating so it is acceptable.

This seems more like it price wise.

I don't think price should be your first consideration when buying a helmet. For my motorcycle, I use a Schuberth Helm and at $450 it's one of the best and most comfortable helmets I've ever used. Carbon fiber and Kevlar construction. If you have a $99 head go for the $99 helmet.

Definitely agree about safety first cost second. But for those of us doing the occasional weekend autoX, I doubt that there will be any need for F1-like protection. If its safe enough for motoX, its safe enough for me.

I have a G-Force Hybrid. It's SA-2000 rated, very comfortable, and has a huge eye port. It cost about $200.

I would also recommend soloracer.com for their selection and good prices. Mention what you are using the helmet for and the prices tend to run about $150 to $200.

For track days you would want an SA (special aplications) rated helmet.. or an FIA approved helmet... which are very pricy... I would go SA closed face if you plan to do alot of open track work... for pure autocross and very little track work I perfer an open face for visibility/heat issues....
