Schroth Quick Fit for R56

Have we pretty much given up on Schroth releasing an R56 specific Quick Fit 4?

I'm aware of how to mod an R53 Quick Fit to work in an R56, just wondering if I should hold off on that purchase.

I used a late model quick fit in my '07 without mods...worked fine. Even had HMS look at it and they said it was fine. Have not yet tried them in my '12 but will soon. The tongue is different on the later ones, even though they are only sold for the Gen Is.

So this is the one you purchased right?

I bought mine used off of NAM. But it looks the same. Same yellow lettering (the earlier one with white lettering didn't fit). I used it on my '07 and just checked the fit on my 2012 (it fits). However, I notice that HMS (and the SCHROTH site) is very careful to not show the tongue that fits into the stock seatbelt buckle. Without seeing that, I can't say for sure that it will fit, but my guess is that it will.

BTW-When HMS looked at mine, I was at a track and they were there, so I asked for them to check it out. I doubt that they would "officially" endorse this. Actually there is a tag on the belt stating that this shall not be used in anything but the R50/R53.

any more info on this? anybody knows why Schroth is marketing only for r53 and not r56? is there a real safety/compatibility issue or just marketing BS? i am getting tired of flying all over the car during HPDEs - frankly not sure what's safer...

I ended up buying a pair that was meant for the R53 on another mini forum (classifieds) and I didn't have to do any modifications to make it fit my '11 R56. It also worked like it should at thunderhill last month so I say just go ahead a find a used set (even if it's the older R53 version that requires a mod, removing a clip i think?).

I bought mine when I had my '03 JCW, I now use it in my '09 Clubman with no issues - I was concerned that the longer wheelbase and specifically the extra legroom meant that it might be too short for the Clubman but it fits me fine.

All I did was file a tiny bit of the plastic cover back and it fit and worked perfectly. I have no idea why they wouldn't simply make a slightly different cover and sell these for the R56.

I'm sure they have their reasons, but I really like the extra security I feel with mine over a standard seat belt when I'm on track

I unstitched the harness where the belt was joint and weld two seat belt latch I bought from the junk yard, cut the harness apart loop it to the buckle and use a 3 bar slide from Summit Racing to hold it together and it done.

The later production date Quick Fits do fit the R56 with no modifications. That is what I am using (fit in both my 2007 and 2012). I believe the way to tell is the later ones with Yellow lettering will fit.

It is finally official...Schroth finally lists a Quick Fit for the R56...
http://www.schrothracing.com/store/t...ck-fit/qf-mini

And HMS has them:
http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/store/s...-pro-mini#2316

that will be my next purchase.

However, not sure why HMS list them for $100 more than Schroth lists them for???? An error

Your links go to the base version and to the pro versions, pricing is the same on both sites for the base units and the pro units.

Nice to see they finally updated.

Sorry, too amazed that they finally complete the project to read closely enough to notice the difference

Can someone explain the main difference in the Base and Pro models? Does the Pro latch qualify for something that the Base latch does not? Or is it just a "better" latch?

Also, does anyone ever have sales on these? (Free shipping and no tax is a plus)

Thx.

It has a center latch that is useable with a Hanns unit. You could check the HMS web page for more info.

Thanks Eddie. I'll research the Hanns Unit to see if it is "required" for certain types of racing that might be in my future (or just extra safety?). May be worth the extra C-Note afterall and probably holds value at resale too.

For the Quick fit, I don't know if it is worth the extra cost as most people don't use these for racing and the Hans Device is more geared for racing. Check around; maybe call HMS to see what is the demand for the Pro version. Here is a start for the Hans device:

http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/store/s...ice/hand-sport

From what I have seen on the market place here, I have not seen a Pro version for sale.

FWIW - There is a neck wrap that a lot of track people use that is less than a C-note and is intended to help keep the helmet from pulling your head down in a crash sort-of like the Hans device does. I would save the money on the harness and buy this. I believe HMS sells them but I could not find it in a quick look.

Yeah, I couldn't find any requirement for the HANS in what I will be doing and I think you are right in that if I start racing on a track with other cars my whole setup may change. It seems the standard Gen1 Quick Fit sells well used if not needed down the road, I imagine a R56 Gen2 one would be a hot item.

Anyone got a USED standard Schroth Quick Fit for a R56 (Model: SR 16150-56) they want to sell cheap?

Just got my passenger side Quick Fit for my 2012 and it is stamped for the R56 up through 8/12 (don't know why only August except that they probably can't predict what MINI will do next that will screw up the certification). I got that so any Instructor I take out will have a "legal" harness.

I do have a Quick fit from an R50/53 for myself (driver ) and it looks identical to the one I just bought (except for being made for the other side of the car). If you find one with the Yellow Schroth patches on it, it should fit your car without modification. Now I am suggesting that you go that route or anything...just saying, Ya know...
