Mini or Mini S for this Rule System

Hi Everybody,

I'm thinking of ordering a new Mini or a new Mini S (my wife already has an '06 mini S). I've done a bunch of autocross in the past, not autoxing currently, but might do more in the future so I was thinking of ordering my car to make it a little bit better at autocross (for example no sunroof, maybe cloth seats, LSD(if an S), etc.)

If I autocross in the future, I'd do it with the local BMW club because they are a great bunch of people. Their rules (which are always subject to change each year) are such that Mini and Mini S are classed together (along with some bimmers) but Mini's can have up to 5 points in mods from the list below.

For example, you could have a base Mini + 5 points for streetable (TW>80) R compound tires. Anybody see 5 points of mods from the list below that would make a Mini faster than the Mini S at autocross? Preferably less expensive mods. I'm not the kind of guy to spend a lot of money on mods because I prefer to spend my money on modding the driver (more seat time/events, etc).

Many thanks for your help.

3.00} x 100 = 33% diff change.

Total Greek to me.

I'd wager the overwhelming majority of Mini owners who autocross run with the SCCA, or clubs that use SCCA rules. They're pretty much of a standard.

RWD does rock and I've considered the Miata but I'm leaning towards a second Mini. I have a RWD car now (RX-8) which has seen many track days and autocrosses. I also have a RWD Jaguar E type but it isn't really going to be competitive at autocrosses.

I see you have an FD. That's one of my all time favorite cars.

You have good taste! The FD is my favorite car of all time. :D

The RX8 is a nice chassis so is the MX5. So is the Mini for that matter. Its the only FWD car I've ever enjoyed since my 77, 79, 84 VWs.

That E Type is hands down my favorite classic car body. Its just plain sexy. Like the FD in some ways such as the way the body panels currrrve. Grrrr...

Good luck in your car choice.

Stirling Moss said the E-Type was, "The greatest crumpet collector known to mankind."

He wasn't talking baked goods, lol.

After getting back from Car Max this evening and finding out how little my RX-8 is worth , I may end up keeping it a bit longer now.

I'd really like to buy an FD but I only have one garage spot and that is currently occupied by the Jag which I really can't part with as it has some sentimental value and has been in the family for over 20 years.

So far, no crumpets collected for me but my wife is probably happy for that.

The car does attract a lot of attention, however, and I sometimes get pretty young women coming up to me to tell me how much they like the car.
