2009 Formula 1 discussion
Ok, before I completely fly off the handle, lose it, whatever... someone tell me that they won't go back in time a rewrite (or alter) the results of previous seasons. I cannot find anywhere in the article where they say IF the proposed medal system was in placed, it only says the changes "WOULD BE ALTERED."
Also, as I understand it, under the current point systems the teams are paid for each point they win. If I do understand it correctly then it would seem under this medal system it would cut almost 39% of what the FIA would have to pay.

Looks like the medal system may not be dead yet.

RIP "Weiner"
F1 mourns ex-McLaren boss Mayer
Former McLaren boss Teddy Mayer, who guided James Hunt to his world Formula One championship win in 1976, has died.
Mayer took over as team head when founder Bruce McLaren died in 1970.
The American, who was 73, also helped Brazil's Emerson Fittipaldi to the title in 1974, and the team to the constructors' crown in the same season.
"Teddy was one of motor racing's few truly great men," said Ron Dennis, who succeeded Mayer as McLaren team principal in 1982.
"The origins of our many and ongoing successes are with Bruce and Teddy."
Mayer briefly made a return to Formula One with the Haas Lola team in 1985 and 1986 before working with Indycar racing team Penske in the US.

I guess coming back to the team with a pocket full of cash helped- Poor Sato

I was really hoping Sato would get another chance in F1. Whether or not he's championship material, he's good for F1 and exciting to watch. On the other hand, I am happy for Bourdais to get another chance. He was doing well last year till STR switched to the new car, which apparently didn't suit him as well as the previous year's car.
Straight from DC in reference to Lewis Hamilton
"I think he's just a class act and he will handle it in his own way...I think he will always manage to be quite controlled and is the (Michael) Schumacher of the modern era, he is now the benchmark against which everyone has to be measured."

My heart's all a'flutter!
Love to see who he considers for drivers.
Marco? Danica? ??????????????
There's already a Wikipedia entry:
"USF1 is an American group looking to enter Formula One in the 2010 season. FIA president Max Mosley confirmed in early February 2009 that he had been approached by the group but that costs are currently too high for them to be competitive.
The team is reportedly fronted by Haas CNC Racing technical director Ken Anderson and journalist Peter Windsor.
The USF1's mission is to stand apart from the other 11 teams by hyping U.S. technology under the tagline of "Made in America." The vehicle will be designed and built in the States and piloted by a duo of American drivers with headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina."

Absolutely fantastic for so many reasons. First, any US involvement in the sport at all is an improvement from it being ignored. Second, at least its a team talking about entering F1 instead of leaving it. My mind alternately dazzles at the thought, and soberly wonders how far it will go.
Instead of trying to build from scratch, there's an old Honda and Super Best Friends teams sitting around with nothing to do. Wonder if he thought of that. I also wonder what he's planning for a powerplant.
All in all, I wish it were Penske doing this though.

Here is a video I found on youtube by red bull that explains the differences between their 08 and 09 car, all done in groovy CGI.

The way the KERS was described kinda reminds me of the "Power to Pass" thing they had during the Champ Car series, which should make things more interesting.

Sorry, but I'm not with you on that. Looks chopped to me, a kind of mixed metaphors in style.
Meh, I'd watch spherical cars race if it was a good race and the spheres weren't pretending to be a normal passenger car. What a race car looks like is sort of irrelevant, plenty of very pretty and simultaneously slow cars out there. The 69 Dodge Daytona was sort of hideous styling wise, but as an exercise in aerodynamics and what NASCAR's rules allowed at the time, it was a thing of dazzling beauty. When you get a pretty race car, bonus, but it's far from the point.
The fact that the new regs have Ferrari nervous about their success this season makes me very happy. If they aren't sure of their prospects, no one can be too comfy.

Newey stated that the RB5 was an agressive design. I pretty much interpret that to mean we're to see some reliability issues. I think it would be fantastic to see some mid-packer from last season to vault up the grid. The likelyhood of that is questionable, imho.
One would think that Ferrari and Mclaren would be hurt the most in the budget area since they have the most extravagant facilities and lifestyles. Funny there don't seem to have been many layoffs, at least that I have seen published.
I just hope for another season of close races and tight points (errr medals?)
If Force India comes out like they're indicating, you might see Sutil show his true abilities

If its fast and it wins - now thats beautiful.I can just hear Newey - "Yea, we were gonna make that change permanent after testing proved it was faster, but it just didn't look right."
