2008 Formula 1 Discussion
20 races next year, bank on it...........
I'm planning to go to both Silverstone for the F1 and Goodwood a week after in 2009. It will be a significant milestone type of birthday for me that summer, and the bride wants to use it as an excuse to travel big, and since a car event would have to figure for it to happen at all - those are our choices!

Shaping up to be a nice fight this year....
Nice race. Great to see BMW on top of the Constructors points.
I wonder if Fred might have picked up a couple more places if he had an intact rear wing.
I can't wait to hear the Brat's excuse for rear-ending Fred.

What the hell was that? That's all that came to my mind today. Did Hami leave his car in 2nd gear or something? But, on the other hand, it was great to see Kubica take poll and lead for a little bit with Heidfeld right behind him. I'll bet Dr. Mario was doing somersaults down pit lane during that. I just can't wait for Spain (I think that's next) to see if Lewis and Alonso can get any revenge on the Scuderia.
What was up with Ferrari's pit stops today? At the first stops, Massa was leading and Kimi pitted first. Kimi's stop seemed to include quite a bit of fuel. Massa then came in for a relatively short stop. Why on earth didn't they change his strategy to "cover" Kimi's long stop by adding more fuel? They seemed to throw away the advantage they gained by pitting second.
Instead, Massa was in danger of being passed via the second round of pit stops as he appeared to need to pit before Kimi. But then Kimi surprised everyone by pitting five laps sooner than expected. Was this team orders? Or maybe there was a refueling problem in Kimi's first stop, leading us to assume he had more fuel on board than he actually did?

Thanks but I'm not there yet!
Any vets out there?
Something smells like a load of BS to me - quoting from this article:
"McLaren have confirmed that Lewis Hamilton’s front wing broke immediately prior to his running into the rear of Fernando Alonso’s Renault on lap two of Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix."
"“When I went into the engineers’ room and started looking at the details that I realised Lewis’s upper front wing had disappeared about two seconds before the accident, so he suddenly lost downforce,” explained McLaren’s Formula One CEO, Martin Whitmarsh."
I went back to look at the "incident" again and no matter how much I slow the playback I can't see anything happening to that front wing before the instant it hits Alonso's right rear tire.

Regardless of all that, why was he so slow during the rest of the race? Wasn't it at Bahrain last year when Heidfeld passed Alonso after the McLaren folks said the BMWs were running light in qualifying and not really that fast?
Again this year BMW was clearly the 2nd best team on the track. I bet McLaren can't wait to get back to Europe at this point.

Hamilton commented, "I am really disappointed and feel like I let the team down today as I always am the first to blame myself. The whole weekend has not been ideal starting with the accident on Friday, but I will keep my chin up and bounce back at the next race. I messed up at the start as I didn't hit the switch early enough and therefore had not engaged the correct engine setting, and the anti stall kicked in.

Mosley to face FIA vote of confidence in June
The Extraordinary General Assembly of the FIA requested by President Max Mosley will take place on June 3. At it, Mosley, who asked for the meeting following the publication of allegations concerning his private life in the British press, will face a vote of confidence.
"The FIA can confirm that the members of the Senate have unanimously approved the proposal of the President of the FIA, that further to the recent press coverage relating to his private life, an Extraordinary General Assembly should be convened," said an FIA statement released on Wednesday.
"The meeting will be held on June 3, 2008, in Paris. The General Assembly will include a vote of confidence by secret ballot."
The full membership of the FIA - 222 national motoring organisations from 130 countries - has been invited to attend the meeting. In the meantime, Mosley is continuing with legal action against the publication in question. Any damages he might win will be donated to the FIA Foundation.

Agreed. The Royal Bahraini family asked him not to attend the race. I can see the same thing happen in Turkey, and if the **** bit is proven, then he'll be persona non grata at just about every European race.
Remember Montoya? Here's his comment:

The sex scandal part hurts him with über conservative countries like Bahrain, Turkey, China, and Malaysia.
The **** issue, if proven, kills him in any country had fought in WWII, including Germany itself.

Driving home from work tonight, and listening to National Public Radio. Lo and behold, Max even made "All Things Considered!"

It's quite a good listen.

I just received my 2007-08 Autocourse. Man, their bias is really screaming in this edition. Kimi is WDC. More wins, etc. But they give the #1 rating to Hamilton saying he was the best driver. I need to take something to keep me from puking over this.
Man, did they get an asbestos e-mail.

They practiced on slick tires this week in Spain ......Massa kicked a$$ !
This year is shaping up nicely, lots of new faces driving well, new challenges with the driver's aids gone, and next year slick tires. Coming along nicely.........

Minus the 50% loss in downforce for next year. FTL!
Hardly. This is absurd. I totally agree with you. The world's best driver doesn't make the mistakes that he made in the last two GP's of '07 when the title was on the line. I'd even contend Heikki is upstaging him this year.

What's even worse, as I read through the edition, almost every race article started off with Hamilton did this or Hamilton did that, even though he didn't win that race.
I remember seeing a pre-edition photo of the cover, right before the end of the season, and it had Hamilton on it. When he screwed the pooch, and Kimi charged forward, the editors must have been committing hari-kiri. They got the cover changed, but they couldn't re-write the edition. Idiots. Reminds me of the famous "Dewey Defeats Truman" newspaper.
