Entering a Cooper S in JS class with BMWCCA
So I am planning on entering a Cooper S in JS class with BMWCCA. I am already a licensed club racer and have been racing an E30 m3 (1989).
Are the following parts available for our cars:
1) Brake backing plates for front so that the brakes can be ducted.
2) Fixed camber plates to get more camber up front. Did anyone try swapping strut hats. This used to work great on the E36 M3.
I hear that Pagid Orange is going to be available for front and rear so at least the pads are set.
For those of you that are road racing your cars, let me know what you have done and what worked for you.
Stock class in BMWCCA is very strict on adjustable stuff, but they allow quite a bit of modifications except boost.
Thanks
Bora

I'm not familiar with all the club racing classes, what is the JS class?I read about the bmwcca spec-Mini class & prepared my car as the rules required.
Ie: Tire Rack components- H&R springs, Koni Adjustable shocks, ASA LW5 wheels w/ Kuhmo Ecsta Mx tires 215/45/17's
Mini-Mania components: Cold air intake w/ K&N cone filter, NRP cat-back exhaust (very nice sound & looks), control arms & rear sway bar (adjustable)
Sparco pro 2000 seats, w/ harnesses.
Will race 1st race (bracket race at NPR raceway in Louisiana) on Sept 27th.
If interested in joining in contact me here or at : paulosdiniz@aol.com for details.
Still have not seen any progress with the spec-Mini class anywhere????
Regards,
Paulo Steven Diniz
This thread is a pretty good discussion of what's NOT going on with MINI spec racing.
As far as backing plates, I yanked mine and pointed a 4cm and 9cm cooling hose at each stock rotor. Using the stock calipers, ATE Super Blue & PF 97 brake pads has worked well with no fading. Not to say this is the optimum setup, but for stock calipers something along these lines come pretty close. If I could, I rather invest a bit more in bigger calipers to increase the life of consumables like pads and rotors.

Yes
Unfortunately, there are just not that many competitors racing SPEC MINI with BMWCCA club racing right now.
Last weekend at Laguna seca, there a was a Mini Cooper (not S) racing with us. He ran in L-stock.
It was nice to see a mini out there amongst the rest of us who were piloting BMWs.
The problem with Spec Mini is that since there are no cars (almost) out there, you are racing on your own.
This is why I was interested in racing in JS class (which is where I used to race my E30 M3 before
I made the jump to JP). The problem is that Mini is not competitive at all in JS.
They really need to drop them down one class to KS.
If any of you have questions on BMWCCA club racing, send me a PM.

I am prepping my MCS to compete with BMWCCA in whatever class they throw me in. I have a JCW so we'll see. Re the Spec class, I too get the feeling there aren't a whole lot of cars out there. I haven't burned my bridges though, have ordered the shocks and springs (won't install till after my first track session with the MCS suspension), won't be buying the rear links as they would change my autocross class and I'm already in trouble (ASP) and flat refuse to buy the sway bar. That is a lot of $ for adjustability. I'm sure that I can come up with a way to make the stock bars adjustable....something about a nifty clamp on the links......
Brakes....I notice the backing plates have little scoops for intake and exhaust of air....I figure I will fabricate or fiberglass extensions and leave it at that. Who knows where I can get caliper paint....I'm to cheap to buy pukka upgraded ones, but I sure would like them red!
Campbell Motorsports (look them up in SportsCar) makes AWESOME discs for everything you can imagine......you deal with the guy that practically melts the steel so there are no layers of mark ups! I'll be going to him as soon as I trash these babies.....

Hello there, nice to here someone else is planning to race in the bmwcca series.
I was one of the first to set up my car for the proposed spec mini....needless to say nothing ever went forward with the series.
I did however start racing with ITA cars in bracket classes at out local track here in Louisiana.
I had about 8 races under my belt and then went and took the double SCCA racing school in Feb. at Roebling road. That was great fun, 40 cars in our group. Only cars that finished ahead of me were: Two GT-1 Vettes, a GT-2 M3 & another gt-1 chevy.
The Mini was getting a lot of attention, previous experience sure did help.
I have talked to Fran Hughs at BMWCCA Liscensing and will be submitting all necessary forms soon.
Scca does not seem to have a class for slightly prepared Cooper S's...so far we would be placed in SPO (super production over 2.5 liters)...does not sound good however you never know.
If you are not too far from Louisiana, you are welcome to come race with us in the " Grand Bayou Series" at No Problem Raceway. visit their website at: http://www.noproblemraceway.com
Feel free to e-mail me at: paulosdiniz@aol.com or call me at:225-953-2742

thanks for the invite Paulo, but I live in the Land of cleves, Ohio. There's always the outside chance that I will return to Houston in the future, so I'll look for you then. In the meantime....keep the shiny side up.....do join BMWCCA, I refuse to risk my baby at an SCCA National...I have my Vee for that...
